Rooftop

"Thought I'd find you here."

Leonardo turned. Eyes widening, his insides sank. His chest was beating him from the inside.

She usually found him before he found her, though tonight was going to be different.

"Why'd you do it?"

"Karai, I didn't mean..."

"I was going to give you the missile launcher, but you went behind my back."

He didn't want all this to happen. He wanted her to know that she was more than welcome to join them. He'd face a hundred Foot Clan soldiers to protect her... but he blew it big time.

"I'm sorry, alright...! I'm sorry! I should have put my foot down as leader, but the guys told me it was a good chance to take down Shredder... but I had no idea he was your father."

Leonardo breathed. Couldn't she see that he still cared about her? He should have stuck his neck out for her... but he chickened out.

"Please... You have to believe me. I'm so sorry..."

The silence stung with every passing second.

"I thought... you were different." The hurt in her voice made his chest heavier. "I thought you saw me as more than just someone from the Foot Clan."

She began to walk to the ledge. "If you cared about me, you wouldn't even have shown up at the docks that afternoon..."

He really blew it big time. He chose his brothers over her trust. She looked like she was about to leave.

"Why didn't you tell me Shredder was your dad?"

He wasn't the only one who did things behind their backs.

Seconds felt like minutes, then she turned to look at him.

"I wondered what it would be like if someone knew me for me," she began. "I could just be Karai, and not just the boss's daughter. Whenever I saw you, Leonardo... I was just Karai. ... Now, I guess I'm just someone from the Foot Clan, huh?"

She leaped off the ledge of the building, her silhouette fading away as she jumped from rooftop to rooftop.

He could feel a side of his cheek grow moist.

"You will always be Karai to me..."
