Danny Fenton was sick of headaches. He was sick of carrying a bottle of painkillers in his backpack every day, and of having to avoid crowded public areas, and of needing sunglasses just to go outside.
Why, exactly, did a ghost need such strong senses anyway?
It wasn't too bad at first. Colors had just been a little more vibrant, and sounds a bit easier to discern from one another. He and his friends had actually treated it as a game, testing his sensory limits compared to theirs.
But soon, those limits had grown and even tiny sounds like the scratch of a pencil against paper were clear to him. Noises that were once comfortably clear were now unsettlingly loud, and what was once piercing was now agonizing. It was almost impossible to get to sleep when the snoring from his parents' room and the sounds from outside the window were so much worse than they were supposed to be.
At the same time, the warm rays of the morning sun started to hurt a bit, stinging his eyes. Sam and Tucker thought he was joking when he first began flinching away from sunlight, but when it became painful enough to bring tears to his eyes, they took it seriously. It wasn't anywhere near as bad as the hearing problem, but it certainly wasn't helping.
Other people didn't though. Dash and his cronies picked on him even more than usual; sneaking up behind him and making loud noises, stealing and breaking his sunglasses, and even shining flashlights directly into his eyes every once in a while. It was painful and annoying, and amused the A-listers to no end.
Danny was more than ready for this to finally stop. The problem was, he had no idea what to do about it.
"Danny!" Sam's voice rang through his head, the volume making it bounce around painfully. Danny cringed and turned to face her, brow furrowed slightly. Sam recognized the reason for the expression and frowned apologetically, "Sorry, didn't mean to be so loud."
Danny shrugged dismissively. "It's fine. What's up?"
"Well, Tucker and I were talking while we were waiting for you to get here, and we were wondering if you wanted to come over for a movie tonight? We haven't done that in a while." Sam offered, an easy smile finding its way to her painted lips. It was obvious that she was trying to find a way to alleviate Danny's stress over recent events.
Well, he wasn't about to say no to that. "Sure, as long as a ghost doesn't pop up. What do you have planned?"
Sam smirked and began explaining as they headed off to class, while Danny allowed himself to be carried away from concentration on his worries.
In the original theme song, it is mentioned that Danny canonically has "senses all enhanced" so I thought I should do a thing about that.
