The tips of the trees are basking in her light, gently swaying in time with the cool breeze drifting through the air. Everything she touches turns to silver, glowing delicately under her pale rays. Sokka sighs and leans on the railings further. It was never meant to be like this. As he looks up to her, she seems so close, like he can just reach out and touch her-
But no. In reality, she is millions of miles away, and the closest he will ever get to her is feeling the cool glow painted on his face and the silver beams of light reflecting off his eyes.
Tonight, her face is full. Her white, pearly glow is at it's strongest as it radiates a tranquil beauty, the only source of light now the sun has gone to bed. He wonders if she is watching him, as he looks up at her. Can she see him? Does she think of him? He doesn't think of her as often now. He has other responsibilities, other things to care for her. He finally came to accept the fact that she was of the past.
But on sleepless nights such as this, he would creep out of his bed and stare sullenly at his lost love in the still and the silent, now blank and emotionless so far away in the black sky. He hopes that she can see him, see the brief forlorn in his eyes as he stares up at her. But sometimes he wonders if he hopes in vain. She was a spirit now. She would have her spirity-lunar business to get on with.
Sokka hears something behind him. Instinctively, his hand reaches for his sword at his side, but he relaxes as he senses the soft, familiar footsteps. He turns away, not wanting to meet her gaze as he feels a comforting arm loosely sling itself around his waist and a head on his shoulder.
He smiles slightly at the warmth, and pulls her in closer.
"You don't have to be out here on your own, you know," she says. "I'm always here if you need me."
Sokka does not reply, but continues staring up at the orb in the sky. He is grateful that Suki says no more, but remains silent with him as she follows his gaze.
"She's beautiful."
Sokka nods in agreement and plants a kiss in Suki's hair. "Yes," he says, looking back at Yue. "She is."
Suki tugs at his arm, and together they turn and silently head back inside. With one last glance behind him, Sokka sighs and smiles gently up at the moon, before disappearing behind the curtain with Suki.
Millions of miles away, up in the sky, Yue looks down with a soft smile on her lips. I do see you, Sokka.
