Bright eyes

Bright eyes

Burning like fire..

Bright eyes..

How can you close and fail?

Leaning down lips gently pressed against soft lips, their lower lip trembling slightly as he pulled back. Pale blue eyes looked down into dull blue eyes; eyes that had always been brilliant in their intensity. To see them now, so dull and filled with pain pulled at his heart; feeling the fragile organ shattering and crumbling within the confines of his chest.

Reaching down he gently ran his fingers through white hair that still felt like liquid silk; at one point the strands now the color of fresh snow had been the complete opposite, as dark as the midnight sky with hues of blue that would shine in the sunlight.

Trailing fingers down from the hair they came to trail along a sunken cheek, his light blue eyes following the fingers as they moved along the clear tube, that ran from behind the ear and up into the small nose, giving life giving oxygen into lungs that could no longer take it in on their own.

He always knew this day would come; he had seen it for years as white started to pepper the ink colored hair, the pale skin had started to age and lose its elasticity. The body which had bordered on contortionist flexibility and strength, started to stiffen up, unable to move with the ease it once had.

Even though he had watched the body before him age, those beautiful blue eyes he loved had remained bright and full of life.

Now though; they were dull and filled with pain that no amount of modern medication could take away.

Even though, they were filled with pain, the stubborn defiance that had been the bane of his existence during their cadet days, was still there, burning dimly in their eyes even as the body the housed them was failing with every breath.

It should not have been this way; he was supposed to have been the one to enter the lifestream first, not to have been cured of his own disease and watch his lovers body fail over time and reach the end of their life on this earth.

Leaning down he gently kissed those lips once more. "You don't need to fight any more."

His fingers tightened around the frail fingers, feeling them close around his gently. The figure below no longer had the ability to speak but their eyes spoke volumes, that stubborn defiance shinning through.

Chuckling softly even though tears ran down his cheeks. "Pest..." he said lovingly. Moving closer he crawled up on the hospital bed, curling up against his lover. The body next to him shifted as much as it could, pressing up against him.

Closing his eyes he nuzzled gently against the soft hair that still smelled faintly of lilac.

Slowly he felt the body beside him still; a final breath leaving in a soft puff before the chest fell still and silent.

Sitting up tears started to flow checked once more from pale blue eyes. Reaching up with a shaking hand, he placed them on still warm cheeks. "Sleep well..." Shaking fingers moved up along eyes that would never open again.

How can the light that burned so brightly

suddenly burn so pale

bright eyes.
