Alex Eames was having a horrible day.

She hadn't gotten much sleep the night before, a suspect had both her and Bobby on edge, and now she couldn't get away long enough for lunch.

She felt almost ready to cry as she headed toward the snack machine.

It wasn't often that she had days like this, but when she did, it was almost as though the entire world was out to get her. Nothing ever went right on days like these, and all she wanted to do was get her skittles, go home to her warm bed and just give up.

Ahead of her, Mike was already at the vending machine, and she offered him a weak smile.

He nodded at her as he reached down to claim his snack.

She saw the skittles he had just bought, and she smiled again. She wasn't the only one who liked skittles.

As soon as he had his snack, he hurried out of her way. He knew that she was having a rough day, and he wasn't going to get between Alex Eames and her sugar fix. He knew better.

She went to the vending machine and put her money in. Then she punched in the number that she knew by heart. The number that would get her tasty skittles.

When they didn't fall, she frowned and looked at the space. It was empty! She spun around, glaring at Mike's retreating form. He had taken her bag of skittles, the last bag in the entire machine!

She swore and got her money back, then took off.

Mike had just sat down in his chair when Eames came at him, and the look on her face told him that he was about to die. He flinched. "Eames...?"

She snarled and reached down, ripping the bag out of his hands. Then she turned around and stormed away, muttering something about dogs and sugar.

Mike just stared at her, shaking.

Carolyn Barek, who had seen the entire thing, shook her head and laughed. "Did you take the last bag of skittles, Mike?" she asked, leaning forward in her chair and gently touching his arm.

He nodded numbly, still trembling.

Next time, he wouldn't bother with skittles.

He'd just get a Milky Way. Or an apple.

The End
