A/N: Woo hoo! My final slot for my bingo card! :D This one was "WILD CARD." So I had the freedom to do whatever. I re-visited the idea of Yue/La in a more Yue-introspective piece on being immortal.

Disclaimer: I do not own Avatar: the Last Airbender.

Warnings: Season one spoilers, set post-canon-ish, and pairing references.

Never Alone
By: Nuit Songeur

Yue watched the Earth from her imperial position with the heavens. She sighed contentedly. There was no crying here, no suffering. At long last, she'd managed to find inner peace within herself. There was no pressure to marry someone and act as the princess. No pressure to meet the great expectations of her people. There was also no war among the spirits, though there were times they disagreed.

Yue was immortal now, which meant she lived past the war's end. She had seen the various conflicts that arose and saw it as Avatar Aang kept peace among the world. Though she did grieve whenever those of her mortal life passed away, the pain didn't consume here. As a spirit, she was more impartial to it as a human, accepting that the common factor of being human also meant death. She had been near death too, once. But, she'd miraculously escaped. Now, she would forever escape as the Moon Spirit.

She wasn't alone, so solitude was never a problem. La, the Ocean, was always there as her true opposite. He wasn't as social as humans were but Yue could understand. Humans talked constantly because death for them was imminent. Spirits had the luxury to convey thoughts and feelings throughout all eternity.

She had the rest of eternity…

But, it was sort of daunting. There was still a measure of solitude that sometimes caused her inescapable loneliness.

You are never truly alone, Yue, echoed a masculine voice that sounded far off. La's.

He was right, of course. She had him and they were to always be a pair. Moon and Ocean. Push and Pull. If she was alone, that would mean La was no more which would also mean that she herself was gone too.

She always had La. And he always had her, as his Moon and as her Ocean.
