Edward sat motionless in the tree, head cocked to one side, listening. All he heard were the sounds of the forest. Sighing he dropped to the ground where he sat in a crouched position as he surveyed the area and then sniffed the air. Nope, absolutely nothing. Where were they?

Slowly he walked through the trees wondering how and when he had lost their trail. When suddenly he heard the whispers of thoughts, too faint to understand. Running he searched for the source of those thoughts. Nothing! Stopping in a clearing, he listened, then sniffed the air and finally he looked to see if he could spot them. This was frustrating! He had been at this for more than 3 hours now and still NOTHING!!!!

As the hours had passed, the frustration had crept in but now he was just annoyed. Mostly at himself but also at them, for talking him into this. Vampires were hunters, dammit! And yet, he was failing miserably at this. He could only imagine what his family was going to say when they found out. He hadn't even realised that he'd been running, trying to outrun his frustrating thoughts, till he he got to a little waterfall. Dejectedly he sat on a fallen tree and stared off into the distance.

"I give up!" He shouted as loud as he could into the surrounding forest. A minute later, something rose up out of the river; a little ways downstream from the waterfall. He groaned when a very distinct smell hit him.

"Finally! I was beginning to think I would starve to death!" The werewolf almost sang with glee, a cocky smile on his face. My forehead met the palm of my right hand. The mutt had been underwater, breathing through a reed to mask his familiar scent. And of course, over the years he had learnt to block his thoughts from Edward.

"Now you really do stink of wet dog!" He growled at the shapeshifter. But before Jacob could tackle him, a high pitched squeel reached their ears. And out of a nearby bush, a cute little 6 year old stood up; leaves and twigs stuck out of her hair in every direction – camouflage. Edward had to suppress the grin that was threatening to split his face in half.

With a big smile on her face, she stepped out of the bush moaning, "Dads, that took forever! I was beginning to wonder whether I was going to starve to death out here. Lets go home and eat!" Jacob beamed at her. Edward; sighing softly; stood, "As soon as we get home, the two of you are bathing. Then you may eat.", a smirk on his face. The other two groaned and moaned and begged him to change his mind as they trudged home.

Edward learnt one very important thing that day, you shouldn't play Hide And Seek with a werewolf (who had access to Emmett's conniving mind) and a vampire/werewolf hybrid (who had access to an unbelievable gift). Odds are, you won't find them!
