River looked up from her book as she heard the familiar sound of The TARDIS materialising, how did The Doctor get it into Stormcage? Oh well, she thought, more time with him. He always did like to surprise her. As The TARDIS finally materialised completely, River stepped inside

"Honey, I'm home" she called "What great adventure are you taking me on today?" she laughed as once again the feeling of home swept over her like every other time she had been in The TARDIS, been with the Doctor.

"Well, I thought we could go to Earth, 1950s, Paris. Have a picnic by the Eiffel tower. What do you think?" River heard from under the TARDIS console. Did this man ever stop playing around with the wires?

"I think you're a hopeless romantic honey, but that's why I love you." River smirked "Thank you for giving me a break from those same 4 walls though, they were getting boring" she added. Soon she could hear footsteps climbing up towards her and chuckled at The Doctor's crooked bow tie before fixing it. As they fell into each other's embrace The Doctor replied

"Yes, well it would be easier if I didn't have to break into a high security prison to surprise you, why are you in there anyway?" As The Doctor fiddled with the controls to send them to 1950s Paris, a grin spread across River's face,

"Spoilers sweetie, you'll find out in time" River hated what she had done and wished The Doctor would never have to find out. The TARDIS stopped whirring as it materialised at their destination and The Doctor picked up a picnic basket from one of the seats around the console and lead the way out of The TARDIS. As River stepped outside, the immediate beauty of Paris was overwhelming, the Eiffel tower, the women's dresses and the sky that was a wonderful golden pink colour as the sun started to set. The Doctor diverted her attention by dragging her towards the tower and placing a blanket on the grass. He pulled her to sit down next to him and started to unpack the food. The Doctor had got all of her favourites: Strawberries, chocolate truffles, lemonade and these cakes that you could only get in one place in the whole galaxy. River wanted this moment to last forever, it was so perfect. For hours they sat in the beautiful city under the setting sun eating and discussing almost every topic possible, it didn't matter what they talked about, they were together and so every moment was bliss.

As the night drew on and darkness came, River laid her head on The Doctor's shoulder and feeling completely safe and at peace, fell asleep. The Doctor smiled and gently kissed her head wondering how it was possible to be so completely head over heels in love with a human. But it didn't matter, he was and he wouldn't have it any other way.
