Domino City. Once a prosperous city united by community and kindness. It being best known for its popularity of a seemingly friendly card game known as Magic and Wizards locally, but more globally known as Duel Monsters.
However, this game has led to dark times on various occasions throughout the city's history. Each time threatening the city and its very existence. But each time these plans of darkness were foiled by a group of teens led by a boy wielding the Millenium Puzzle; an item whose wearer solves it and wears it can wield the power of the Pharaoh himself.
Each time these obstacles were solved by shadow games. A form of dueling in which each opponent wagers his soul for the power of the opposing player. If the wrong hands win these games, the fate of the world may be sealed forever.
These games were ended by the boy, Yugi Motuo, who possesses the Millenium Puzzle. As well as his spirit counterpart, Atemu, the very spirit of the Pharaoh of Egypt. Bringing peace to the world once more…
After these games were ended, Atemu had to leave this world to return to his own time, taking back all evil that was unleashed with him.
There was peace in the world once more, and for awhile all was normal. Duel Monsters could finally be played without the danger of losing one's soul.
However, not all evil was sealed.
Groups of duelists, often called Guilds, began gathering at night, dueling each other for conquest of each others' territory. It was said some even began uncovering the secrets of ancient Egyptian magic, even starting their own Shadow Games.
Once again existence is threatened, as the alleged death and missing tolls began rising in Domino City, and the Pharaoh is no longer in this world to stop this new threat.
It is now time for new heroes to rise and face this threat, for the fate of the world depends on it...
