Fly Again by Trina Toh
The Boy Wonder stood firmly on a building and swooped down to the ground. He landed in a crouch, and stood up, cape billowing around him. He walked towards the desolated place covered with thick green trees front of him as sounds made by creatures of the night reached his ears. A moment after, Robin spotted movements from behind the bush and discovered mysterious shadows lurking from behind the cluster of trees.
The men showed their faces, armed with batons, guns and chainsaws, they surrounded Robin. Among the group of eleven, two hurriedly started to saw the trunk of the huge tree planted beside Robin. The rest of the crooks tried to use their weapons to take out Robin but to no avail. But, without the Boy Wonder's knowledge, a guy raised his baton and swung it down to Robin's neck. He fell flat on solid earth just as the tree toppled down and landed on his right leg. "Aw!……." he groaned desperately.
" Ha ha! Looks like little Robin fell from the tree," said one, mocking at the teenager in great pain as the whole group of crooks started to laugh at the previous's hilarious joke. They turned their backs on the struggling man and soon disappeared in his vision.
A couple of hours later, a hunter heard Robin's weak and soft cry for help. He rushed to the scene and carried the helpless young man to the hospital.

An immediate operation was carried out.

The red light of the 'Operation' sign turned down. The doctor came out and said, " His life is not in danger but his right leg had been crushed," to the hunter. He went in, seeing Robin lying on the bed. He passed on the doctor's words, added a few consolations, and left.
" What?!" Robin was stunned momentarily. He could not believe his ears. He laid in bed, repeating these words to himself time and time again, " I call myself a hero when I could not even defend myself," he blamed himself.
After being bed-ridden for a couple of months, his leg had healed but not his mind. He did not believe in himself enough to overcome his inability to walk. He went back and laid on the bed, disappointed in himself as he said an unconfident, " I give up!"

"Dick"
"Bruce!"
"Dick, you must believe in yourself. Trust yourself, Dick. Put your soul to it to overcome the mental block you have. I know you can do it!"
After these words, the image of Bruce started to fade in Dick's mind as he woke up in cold sweat in the middle of the night.

Robin woke up, remembering his mentor's words. He promised to himself never to give up again. Barbara Gordon, Dick's good and trusted friend visited him everyday and gave him non-stop encouragements and even brought Dick to the 'Gotham Society For The Physically Handicapped' and showed him how they had overcome their fear. Then, she wheeled Dick to the basketball court where the handicaps were playing happily. Barbara crouch down to Dick and whispered words of encouragement to him, "Dick, look at them. Your problem with you is not believing in yourself and this problem can be overcome. Bruce, Alfred and I will always be there for you. You must get well or you will be letting us down especially Bruce." These words were the best encouragements to Dick and with his own determination to get well, he finally succeeded.
His recovery was just like a newborn bird ready to spread its wings and fly again.
