A Mind Worth Breaking

Disclaimer: I do not own Yami no Matsuei, but I really wish more manga volumes would come out.

"Did you ever want to grasp something that you knew was out of your reach, but doing so would probably kill you? And if you knew it would cause such pain, would you still go for it? Just how much is enough? In love there are no boundaries… Is that really true?" Sweeping his dark brown hair from his eyes, the slender man sighed. He looked over at the young interviewer sitting to his far left. The young man's green eyes were filled with many emotions, he noticed. The green eyes made him shift in his seat.

Some silence passed through the room, filling in many voids that would at most tear him to shreds by the end of the interview. "Why did you ask?" The young interviewer's voice sounded forced. He looked over at him and noticed how the young man looked away from him.

"You came here wanting to know about my past, and I'm telling you… That's why," he answered with tenderness in his voice. He stretched out his legs, making himself more comfortable unlike the interviewer. Deep within his mind, he knew that he could not wait out the silence. The way it made him feel was intense, so much that he wished he still talked to his last remaining friend.

"Seiichiro Tatsumi was something more to you than just a friend?" the green-eyed interviewer questioned. A creeping smile on his face answered the interviewer's question. He knew the question was going to come up, but the timing was a little different than from what he expected.

He cleared his throat. "Yes, we were lovers," he paused, checking to see the reaction from his interviewer. Unlike the many others, he did not grimace or look at him with disgust. Seeing no reason to stop, he continued. "We were together since our high school days. It lasted until three weeks before the incident."

The interviewer nodded, a bit tentative at first. "You call it an incident?" he asked, no mercy in his voice.

Shivers went right through him after noticing the interviewer's eyes as he spoke. "Asato Tsuzuki, you are aware of what you did, are you not? We have a witness!" The interviewer's voice escalated far louder than he had ever heard it before.

Unable to compose himself, Asato stood up. Glaring at the interviewer, he grasped the chair he was sitting in and hurled it over to the door. "It's not true! That never happened! You're wrong! He's lying!" Asato forced himself to breathe. At a slow pace, he felt his breathing begin to go back to normal. Once composed, he looked over to see his interviewer. He was gone. "He left," he stated. The door taunted him. It urged him to walk to it, and so he did.

"What do you think? Is he getting better?" Asato recognized the voice. It belonged to Wakaba Kannuki, his assistant from when he had had a job.

He pressed himself closer to the door. "He still thinks he's innocent. No, he's not getting better. The only reason he is even here is because they claimed he's mentally unstable." The interviewer's voice sounded accusing in his opinion.

Asato bit his lip. "I'm not lying. He… I'm innocent," he whispered, trying to comfort himself from the many depths of his mind. At the moment, he blocked out all thoughts. Nothing but the truth comforted him in the isolation of the universe.

A/N: Special thanks to Brokenshardsofmyheart99, my beta! And yes, I was out of my mind for writing this. I just felt so tired and angry for no reason at all. Thanks for reading!
