Clown Girl
I have a secret admirer.
His username is loser_boy87, but I think he's pretty cool. He sent me a message the other day, saying he's been reading my blog and thinks I'm pretty funny. He says that he wishes he knew someone like me in his high school; he's tired of everyone hiding behind a mask. I wonder if he'd still think that way if he actually saw me.
My name is Moira, but in the clown business I'm known as "Frizzy Mo". I've been a part of the traveling circus for as long as I remember. That's partly because I was orphaned on the streets, before Big Randy found me. Big Randy's like a father to me, he taught me everything I know. He said the moment he saw my bright red, frizzy hair, he knew I belonged in the clown family. He found me on the streets after one of his performances and decided to take me in. I'm still not sure where I was living before then, but Big Randy told me that I shouldn't ask so many questions.
Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if Big Randy hadn't found me. Would I have died of starvation? Would I have been adopted into another family? I wonder what it would've been like if I grew up as a normal girl. I probably wouldn't be able to balance myself on a beam 15 feet from the ground, but maybe I'd have a group of friends my age. Maybe even a boyfriend. I'd probably be in high school by now, studying to go to college. I don't even know what people study in college. Is there really that much to know about the world?
"WAKE UP FRIZZY!"
It's Sonya's harsh voice. "DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS?"
Sonya was Big Randy's new girlfriend, probably one of his current prized possessions. He's crazy about her, which means she's the boss lady.
"I-I-… I must've overslept," I murmured, quickly rolling out of my bed and zipping past her to the door.
"I thought you were going to make me breakfast and take out the trash, and what do I get, but a lazy teenager who makes me have to work like this." Sonya whines.
I looked back at her with utter hatred in my eyes, but dart away before she could notice my glare.
Just outside my door, I bump into Big Randy.
"Oh good morning dear," he says, more bubbly than usual.
"Hi, what's the schedule for today?" I asked.
"Slip on your Wednesday costume, we're performing aerobics." He says, with lightness in his tone.
"Okay!" I giggled. "Why are you so cheerful today?"
"The big boss has given me the day off from performing. I'm just managing today." Big Randy smiled at me gleefully, though seeming to look past me.
"Oh Sonya! How's my darling?" He zips past me as Sonya leaves from my room.
As Sonya falls into his arms, I quickly find my escape. The less time I have to deal with this wretched woman and her soon-to-be-off-relationship with Big Randy, the better.
I slip on my Wednesday costume, and then I see him. Alex. He's the new member of the traveling circus and he's the only one who looks around my age. He's only seen me with my clown makeup on, so this is going to be the first time he's going to see my face.
"Alex!" I say, ecstatic to get his attention.
He looks all around but not my direction, before showing a smirk on his face and looking directly at me. He's so handsome that he should be a famous model somewhere.
"Woah, I didn't even recognize you." He says, walking up to me.
"Do you like what you see?" I give him the most seductive look that I can pull off.
He smirks and jokingly says, "Nahhh… I've seen better."
I playfully punch him in the stomach and he wrestles with me for a while.
