She just stayed there, during the biggest part of the evening, without saying anything.
She didn't touch the food or the drinks either - and even though most of her so-called friends were around, Pansy could hardly bring herself to exchange a couple of words with them. Not even make a mean comment about Millicent's dress or Theodore's bow tie; not, on that specific night, everything seemed pointless, not worthy of her attention. Or her feelings.
It was hard not to cry, that much she was willing to admit. It is not every day you see your man on the altar with other woman - and when it is, you sure as hell can't keep a straight face. She was doing the best she could and even that didn't feel like enough. The fact that Astoria looked outstanding in her white dress (even if she weren't exactly a virgin to wear one) didn't help much, either. Pansy considered jumping over her and ripping that dress out of her body, but it wouldn't look exactly polite; besides, she wasn't the kind of woman to do that sort of scene. Maybe later, in private, but not in front of a room full of ex-Slytherins and their family.
But she definitely needed to discharge all that tension onto something or someone, even if it was only to make her slightly better.
Anything to make her better.
"Are you okay?" someone asked, from behind her. Pansy didn't realize Blaise was there until he had spoken and when he did, she wished she could cover her face; she was probably looking hideous with that messed-up make-up – result of tears that insisted in falling from her eyes.
"Yes, I'm okay." She liked. On the altar, Draco had just made the vows and for a briefly moment their eyes made contact. She thought she would see happiness on his eyes, but there was nothing but a shadow, like something was missing. For her disappointment, she knew it wasn't her.
"I don't think he would mind if we left earlier", Blaise said. He took one of the flowers from the arrangement and put it in her hair, making a gesture for Pansy to follow him. It wasn't something you'd see Blaise Zabini doing every day; but then again, Pansy Parkinson crying wasn't something you'd see every day either. "They say there are actually drinkable things on the Leaky Cauldron now that Longbottom is running it. Do you want to check it out?"
He reached out for her and for a moment Pansy considered what to do – but a new glance towards Draco, in the exactly moment he and Astoria kissed, was enough to give her the answer she needed.
Holding Blaise's hand tightly, she left. The day of Draco Malfoy's wedding was the day of unexpected things.
But not all unexpected things are necessarily bad.
