.:You Remain the Same:.

Akiko couldn't understand it. Was she too plain? Too annoying? Too much for him to deal with? Too SHORT? The girl just couldn't figure out what was going through the Japanese male Exorcist's mind when he ended it between them. She was confused and slightly heartbroken. But, when they were together, his eyes were always too distant, and when he looked at her, it's as if he was imagining someone else whenever their eyes met. She always made up excuses for it, but it was always the same; he was always the same.

"Look, I'm sorry, but this time I think we should just end it," he told her bluntly.

The girl laughed bitterly. "Oh? So for these past couple of months when I thought you would actually care, you were just toying with me Kanda?" she asked, tears welling up in her eyes.

He wanted to be with her, but he knew that if he found the one person he was searching for, he would leave Akiko in a heartbeat...and that was why it was unhealthy for them to be together. He needed to freeze his heart, make it uninhabitable for anyone or anything to leave a mark on it.

The girl's violet-blue eyes searched his face, looking for something, anything, that would explain it all. But she found nothing. She sighed and turned away, her back facing him now. She then whispered a few words that he would never forget, a few words that sounded like a curse. "Kanda, no matter what, you remain the same..."
