Once again I found myself in a strange, dark place. However, this time there was no guide, no benevolent Beatrice to watch over me. As I wandered this world, I realized much had changed in the seven hundred years I had been absent. In that same time, Hell has also changed.

When I first awoke, my first thought was that I had been placed back in Hell, for the sights I saw were much like those in parts of Hell. Watching people chasing after first one large yellow creature and then another reminded me of the futile in the Vestibule of Hell. Masses of people rushing at each other from opposite sides of a street with packages and bags brought to mind the fourth circle and by the way they clutched their possessions, I had no doubt that they were the miserly and materialistic.

I soon learned this was not Hell, but New York, the much-desired yellow creatures were taxis, and although the frightful mêlée happened at every crosswalk, almost no one was ever injured.

However, New York caused me to rethink Hell. If earth had changed so vastly, perhaps Hell had as well.
