As you see, there are a lot of things you can do and achieve in the world of One Piece. But there is one particular group you don't want to be part of. Because till this point in time it seems that this group has the highest death or disappearing rate.
I am talking about mothers! Especially caring mothers!
Let's put a review from the very beginning to the latest happenings.
1) Luffy: He does have a father but we know nothing about his mother. Well, to be honest, we don't even know anything about Dragon at this point in time too, but that shouldn't be the point right now. Anyway – Luffy's mother. Is she still alive or is she already dead? If she is still alive, she might play a major role in the future … or not. It could very well be, that she herself is notorious and had to leave here son behind. If she past away: Did she die during child birth or some point in time?
2) Zoro: We don't know anything about both of his parents. Could very well be that both of them are alive or dead.
3) Nami and Nojiko: Both have lost their biological parents when they were very little and have been adopted by Bellemere, whom died protecting her daughters.
4) Usopp: Lost his mother when he was very young. His mother was just a normal person. Luckily not being chased for being the wife of a pirate.
5) Sanji: Nothing known about his biological parents. As far as I can remember, though.
6) Chopper: Was abandoned by his parents.
7) Robin: Also lost her mother at a very young age. Olvia left Robin to protect her. She didn't want her daughter to have to bear her sins.
8) Franky: His parents were pirates and have thrown him overboard. So he was abandoned.
9) Brook: Does it really matter?
10) Ace: His mother died protecting him from the Government and Marines because she deemed her son deserved to live.
11) Vivi: No mother.
12) Conis: Also just has her father left.
13) The royal children of Fishmen Island: Otohime died fighting for a better life for the fishmen.
14) Rebecca: Her mother was also killed – just because.
15) Doflamingo: As he said himself, his mother died, when he was very young.
16) Sabo: He was kind of abandoned by his parents.
On a side note: There seems to be no Mrs. Monkey D. Garp to be alive. She could have lived at Marineford but that would mean that Dragon grew up there but I doubt Dragon grew up there. But on the other hand there was no Granny in Fuusha. So … that just leaves another dead woman who had given birth once again in time. Or she didn't care enough for her son and left him behind, which is the only other possible way to not die being a mother.
This leads to the following conclusion:
1) If you are a caring mother for your child – you die (at some point in time or during child birth). When the children are abandoned, it is for the safety of said child and to ensure that it can live.
2) If you don't care for your child – you are alive
"Honey, I am pregnant!" in One Piece means: "I am going to die!"
It really sucks to be a mother in One Piece!
