Spoilers: Through "Fear of Commitment"
Author's Note: Sorry it's so short, but I was rushed for time and I wanted to post it today. The story is based on a picture from the preview.
Home. That's all Abby wanted. To go home, and not have to worry about anything anymore. It had been an emotional day; she had to testify in court about her mother's sanity. Not exactly a cheerful subject. And in the end Maggie won, and now she was out of the hospital again. Would she be better this time? Abby couldn't help but hope, though her practical side asked her why this time would be any different.
Abby took the El home, and when she arrived at her apartment, Luka was there, cooking dinner. She smiled to herself. He had admitted to her earlier that day that he was jealous of her relationship with Carter. He wanted to be there for her, and take care of her. Because he didn't want to lose her.
Luka turned from the stove and smiled. "Hi. How did things go?"
"Okay. Pretty much what I expected."
"What did Legaspi say?" he asked.
"Just that she didn't think Maggie should've been let out."
"Are you hungry?"
"A little," she replied.
He studied her face. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," she said hesitantly, but truthfully. Today demons had been exorcised, the past reopened and resolved.
After dinner Abby took a long shower before getting ready for bed. She was exhausted and realized she had only slept a few hours in the last week. Stepping out of the bathroom in her pajamas, she saw Luka waiting for her, in a white tee shirt and boxers.
Their eyes met, and without a word being spoken, she went into his arms. They held each other tightly.
"Thank you for being there today," she told him.
"I'm so sorry," he replied.
"For what?"
"For not listening to you before, for being jealous…for the last six months." She looked at him questioningly. "For the way I treated you, for not realizing how lucky I was…I love you, Abby."
"I love you, too." Abby looked up at him and slowly he leaned down to kiss her softly. All either of them wanted was for this moment to last forever.
