A/N: I'm trying to get back into writing for The Finder and this little story just came to me.

Willa remembers her first boyfriend. It hadn't been a real relationship by most people's standards but the watered down middle school version that every child went through, usually lasting no more than a couple of weeks. That is, of course, unless you were Willa Monday.

Danny was nice. He liked to hold her hand, walk her to class, tell her how pretty she was, and Willa was a twelve year old girl with her first reciprocated crush, of course she told people about him. And those people included Timo Proud.

She'll never forget the day that everything changed. She was walking out of school, hand in hand with her new boyfriend, and her heart skipped a beat when she saw Timo standing there waiting for her, leaning against his car. Bidding Danny a quick goodbye, she practically skipped over to the older boy with a radiant smile, wrapping her arms around his waist in greeting. He smoothed a hand over her hair in return but his eyes were still focused on the boy she'd left behind.

"Is that Danny?" The young girl peered up at him in confusion, wondering why he cared, before giving a nod. All the times she had mentioned Danny to Timo, all she had gotten in return was a look of bored indifference. She hadn't even been sure that he'd remember the boy's name. Reaching behind him, the dark haired boy grabbed the handle of the passenger side door and walked them forward so he could open it, gesturing for her to get in. "Go pick a station you like. I'll be right back."

"Where are you going?"

"I just need to have a talk with your friend," he told her with a reassuring smile before shutting the door behind her, effectively ending her questioning. Ignoring the radio, Willa pressed herself close to the window and tried to discern what they were saying. Unfortunately, Timo kept his back to her and Danny didn't seem to do much talking, the widening of his eyes and his gaze darting over to her saying everything. After a few minutes, Timo turned and began heading back to the car, looking satisfied.

"What did you say to him?" Willa asked as soon as he shut his door. The older boy gave her a considering look before shaking his head.

"We just had some business to discuss. Nothing you need to worry about," he told her, patting her knee gently. "Come on, you can pick where we go for dinner."

oOo

It was just a couple of days later that she realized what had happened. Danny wouldn't speak to her, wouldn't even look at her. The one time she'd tried to confront him, he'd actually run the other way. Timo had scared him off.

As sad as she was about the loss of a friend in her life, it was overshadowed by excitement, anticipation. Sure, she knew she and Timo were betrothed but until now, they were just words. Now there had been action. So she watched. And waited. Waited for a change, a shift in their relationship. Only, it didn't come. Things continued on as normal, with Timo giving no indication that anything had even happened, treating her like a little sister as he always had, and with her hopes sinking a little more every day. It was when she saw him leaving with his arm slung around a girl his own age that they were well and truly dashed and she came to some harsh realizations.

That was the first time Willa realized that while she may be his, Timo Proud was not yet hers.

A/N: So I feel like maybe this was a little abrupt but like I said, I'm trying to get back into things. A lot of people have been asking me about finishing Little Girl and I do intend to as soon as I get back into my writing groove. So if you'd like to help me with that, you can leave a prompt in a review and also let me know if you liked this piece :)
