Christmas Day – Harry's viewpoint

"Night Harry," Hermione called as Harry walked up the stairs to the dormitory. He found Ron, Neville, Dean and Seamus already asleep in their beds. He lay down in his warm bed and knew that when he next awoke it would be Christmas day.

However, when Harry re-awoke it was in fact only eleven a clock. He looked around the room to find what had awoken him and found 3 house elves scurrying about at the foots of the beds. After a short time he realised they were delivering the presents. He saw a young looking house elf with a small pink tea cosy as a hat put a very jumper-like parcel at the foot of Ron's bed. Harry decided to go to back to sleep rather than bother the house elves and soon went to sleep again.

When he awoke again it was now Christmas morning.

"Happy Christmas!" said Ron who had already opened and was wearing the jumper from his mum.

Harry opened his presents and then went down into the common room.

"Hey Harry!" called Ginny who was sat in a chair in the corner chatting to Hermione.

"Hi," he said going to sit with them.

"Shall we go down to breakfast?" Hermione suggested.

"Yeah, come on, we can meet Ron there," Ginny replied.

They walked down together to the Great Hall which was decorated with the normal enormous Christmas trees and loads of tinsel and paper chains. Everyone was in a festive mood, including the Slytherins who had lost their usual grimaces and replaced them with cheerful faces.

"Merry Christmas Harry," called Hagrid who was sat at the staff table, alongside Professor McGonnagall.

Harry waved to Hagrid on his way to taking his place at the Gryffindor table.

There weren't many Gryffindors in the Great Hall yet just those three and a lot of first years. As Harry looked around the room he noticed Malfoy with Crabbe and Goyle, (who were eating as much as they could – which is a lot) and Pansy Parkinson sat nearby, staring into thin air.

He also saw Luna Lovegood sat alone at the Ravenclaw table and suddenly felt an urge to go and talk to her.

"Hello Harry," she said smiling as he sat down in front of her, "How are you?"

"I'm good thanks Luna, how's your dad getting on with his magazine?"

"Oh, he's doing fabulously, you know, he made twice the usual sales on his Christmas edition this year."

"That's great," Harry replied.

"It's beautiful outside, don't you think, with the blanket of snow covering everything, it's just so mysterious and wonderful."

"It is," Harry replied, "Do you fancy going for a walk in the grounds later?"

"That would be nice," she replied beaming at him.

After they had been for a walk in the grounds Harry joined in a massive snowball fight with Ginny, Ron, Linda, Parvati, Seamus, Dean, Neville and Hermione.

Later Harry went to the Christmas Ball, a new celebration that Hogwarts had decided to host on Christmas Day.
