God, I don't know how you can watch the innocent die.
When they die, I wonder sometimes... do you cry?
Do your tears fall down from the Heavens, like rain?
How, in the face of all this tragedy, do you stay sane?

Do you weep for those who die without knowing you?
Do you hold the dead in your arms, doing all you can do
to stop the tears from coming down your tear-streaked face,
holding them tightly in your embrace, as you shower them with your grace?

We grieve when we should celebrate the passing of our friends.
Though we do not know the reason for you taking them now, our hearts will mend.
But you allow us to keep the joyous memories we have from them in our heart.
even as they disappear from our sight, suddenly, and with finality, to depart.

For our loss must be your gain, for you hold the dead forever.
Your sheep are forever held in a mighty bond that cannot sever.
In your hand, you cup the rich and poor, each no different than the one before,
and in Heaven, you let us go, watching closely, but allowing us to soar.

Authors notes: This was written today for the tragedy in Israel. More than 300 dancers fell through the third floor and down to the ground floor when the floor beneath them collapsed. The amateur video shot of the accident is very shocking, to say the least. I myself was not really prepared to see it. To watch the death of all these people, in slow motion... I don't understand how God can do it, day after day, year after year... The death toll stands at 24 as I post this, with more to be expected. If you are religious, please keep the families, victims, and survivors in your prayers. Thank you.
