Alexander's Plan

"Agrippa, Agrippa, Agrippa!" Alexander sang as he pranced gaily down the stairs.

"The…lever…" Agrippa moaned. Alexander rushed over and turned the crank. "Much better. Thank you, Alexander."

"Do you remember Peter?" The Baron asked. Agrippa looked at him a moment, puzzled.

"Was he the prisoner who wandered around the castle until he died?" Agrippa asked.

"Yes, yes," Alexander started dancing around the room, "that's the one. Ended up jumping out one of the windows in the study. Gave off a so much vitae, I wish he didn't kill himself." The Baron stopped his little dance and turned back to Agrippa.

"Well, what of him?" Agrippa urged.

"I found another prisoner like Peter. An arsonist with so much potential." Alexander looked at Agrippa seriously, gauging his reaction.

"But… he will just go crazy and kill himself." Agrippa stated. This was Alexander's cue. He clapped his hands together and started dancing again.

"Not if he's trying to kill someone else."

"What do you mean, Alexander?" The Baron burst into a laughing fit at the thought of his own genius plan, and Agrippa had to wait some time before receiving an answer.

"What if-" Alexander wheezed, "what if I give him some Damascus Rose? He would wake up and find a note he 'wrote' to himself. 'God willing, the name Alexander of Brennenburg will still invoke bitter anger in you. If not, this will sound horrible. Go to the Inner Sanctum, find Alexander and kill him.' I'll make him think I stole my orb from him. I'll make him think my red shadow puppet-"

"It is a pet Alexander. How many times do I have to tell you that?" Agrippa interjected.

"Puppet sounds better. But anyways, I'll make him think my red shadow is the Gaurdian of the Orb, coming to kill him. His confused mind will think that by killing me, he'll be safe."

"But why, Alexander?" Agrippa asked.

"Because I'm bored, my servants are bored, and we get to dress up in ridiculous monster outfits to scare some guy shitless. Oh, and we do get some vitae out of the whole deal. That's good too." The Baron had stopped dancing to think, and he was sitting cross-legged in front of Agrippa.

"Do you think he could make it this far?" Agrippa asked, a glimmer of hope in his voice.

"Maybe" Alexander replied.

"Would I get to talk to him?" The hope, the longing, is not concealed anymore. Agrippa's chains rattle.

"Yes, Agrippa," Alexander sighed, "just remember, he's supposed to hate me."

"Oh, that will be easy." Agrippa replied without thinking. Alexander jumped to his feet.

"What's that supposed to mean?" He yelled. If Agrippa could have flinched, he would.

"Uh, nothing, I just think I am a good actor- hey what's the prisoner's name?" Agrippa asked evasively.

"Daniel." The Baron replied. "We will 'release' him tomorrow."
