Little soldier

Nico, mio caro…

Nico whipped around. He was sure he just heard a voice that sounded like it was from a distant, faded memory, but he couldn't place it; and when he turned around there was no one. He shivered; he was starting to have visions.

This time he knew that he wasn't dreaming. He slowly turned to see a ghost stepping out from the shadows. It was a lady clad in black, old fashioned clothing from the '40's. Nico instantly knew that it was the spirit of his mother, whom he had been forbidden to summon.

"mamma?," Nico whispered transfixed.

The ghost smiled softly.

I'm proud of you my son, you are so brave…

"B-But how…?" Nico murmured.

Hades decided to let me meet you once, mi0 caro. I've been watching over you all along. You have done so much, nico.

Nico's eyes slowly filled with tears. To see his mother, to hear her say she was proud of him; it meant a lot to him. He sent a silent prayer to Hades, thanking him.

He extended a hand towards his mother's spirit, wanting to touch her; but whenever he got near her, she turned to mist.

Nico let his hand fall down, disappointed. At least he could see her, he told himself. She looked a lot like Bianca, the same smile, the same tenderness.

Come Nico, you must be tired. Go to sleep…

Nico lay down on his back, obeying her at once. But he didn't close his eyes. He was afraid she would vanish the moment he looked away.

She began to sing to him, softly, in Italian. Nico felt like he had heard that song before; it must have been before they wiped his memories. Nico felt his eyes closing against his will. He felt very sleepy.

Nico curled up in a ball and tucked his head under his elbow. He felt a light touch on his head, and he knew that his mother must have tried to touch him, only to find her hand turning to useless mist.

Nico yawned and felt himself slowly drifting towards sleep. The last thing he heard before he lost his conscious was his mother's voice, fading away and leaving an empty echo in his ears.

A/N so that's it. I had the song soldatino (nico's lullaby) in mind while writing this. That is a very beautiful song. please tell me if you find any mistake and if you have an idea for a fanfiction, tell me and I'll try to write it.
