THE COLOUR 'GREEN'

It was the colour of the walls of the house she left behind.

It was the colour of the robes of the people who considered her husband to be unworthy of her.

It was the colour of the light that filled the room when her sister killed a Muggle for smiling at her.

It was the colour of the dress robes her mother bought her to impress her suitors.

It was the colour of the eyes of her cousin's best friend's wife who had been killed by a dark wizard her sisters supported.

THE WORD 'MUDBLOOD'

It was the word that characterized the whole attitude of the Black sisters as they passed through school.

It was the way Ted Tonks had been insulted continually by her family.

It was the word her sister had muttered before killing a man in front of her eyes.

It was the thought that ran through her aunts' mind as they passed an excited little red headed girl in Diagon Alley.

It was the word that lingered in every corner and every passageway of No.12, Grimmauld place.

THE SMELL OF FIREWHISKEY

It was the smell that haunted every corner of a house she no longer cared about.

It was the smell that reminded her of her father after a long day at work.

It was the smell of Rabastan Lestrange as he tried to kiss her.

It was the smell of her boyfriend's hair as he passed the Slytherin common room daring to ask for her.

It was the smell of Bellatrix's breath as she whispered "Crucio" into her ears causing her to scream in pain.

CHOCOLATE FROGS

It was the first thing her mother had sent her on being sorted into Slytherin.

It was what her mother had threatened to turn Ted into if she married him.

It was the dessert she was enjoying when her sister had told her she was joining the Death Eaters.

It was the one thing her sisters and she had savoured together every summer.

SILK

It was the fabric that adorned all the walls of a house that never quite became a home.
It was the material that Bella wore one the day she handed over her life to a man who didn't love her, and worse still ,didn't deserve her.
It was smooth like the feel of her mother's hands.
It was soft like the quilts she slept with for 18 years.

It was the texture of Cissy's hair as she braided it for the last time.

With each of these things, old memories she had kept locked away in the deepest corners of her heart resurfaced. When she smelled Firewhiskey, she remembered her father hugging her. When she felt silk, she could hear Cissy laugh. When she saw a chocolate frog, she could see Bellatrix playing with her hair, chocolate all over her mouth. When she heard Mudblood, she remembered laughing with her mother. When she saw green, she remembered everything all at once, every memory came crashing down and though she hated it, sometimes, just sometimes she missed them.
