Safe

AN: All right... who else died from the sheer awesomeness of Episode 9? I know I about did. I was screaming and squealing and everything during pretty much the entire episode. Korra was so BA in the end part, where she tricked the Equalists, and GO AMON(shocker, right?) for taking Tarrlok's bending!

Ahem. I'm sure someone has got to have thought of this. I know Tumblr people have.

Disclaimer: I don't own LoK or the song Safe and Sound.

Just close your eyes

The sun is going down

You'll be all right

No one can hurt you now

Come morning light

You and I'll be safe and sound

"Give her some space!" The order comes out as a frantic and worried bark, and the thought just barely crosses his mind that he's yelling at two bending masters—two children of the century's greatest heroes—but he's too worried to care for his own safety right now. He scoops up Korra in his arms; she's exhausted, beaten, but alive.

He walks her over to the sky bison, guilt wrenching at his heart as he catches a mere glimpse of Asami's crestfallen face. After Korra being kidnapped, he knows who he loves now, and as much as it may hurt, it's not Asami.

"I was so worried," he tells the tired Avatar. Tears sting his eyes and threaten to fall, but he holds his composure. "Are you all right?"

She's got a small, weary smile on her face. "I'm fine," she reassures. There was a pause, then, "I'm glad you're here," and Korra leans her head onto his shoulder. He can't help but stare worriedly at her, but she is still smiling.

He climbs up onto Oogi's saddle and as gently as possible, lays her down. The rest of the group is still standing there, watching them, but he ignores them and kneels down next to the Avatar. She looks beautiful, even after everything she's been through, even with her messy hair and her new scars.

The little strands of hair fall into her tanned face, and he sweeps them away softly. "You're safe now," he tells Korra, and it's not just a promise to her, but also to himself.
