The Night Life
~*~Prologue~*~
It took all of my strength not to sink my teeth into the sofa. So hungry, I viewed my surroundings. Staring down the hallway, my inhuman senses kicked in. The world turned to shades of blue. Nothing. I took a sniff at the air, hoping to pick the scent of maybe a small animal. Still nothing. Sighing I stood and shuffled to the refrigerator. I surveyed its contents bleakly. Old milk, mustard and some unknown substance in the back. I remember an offhand comment Motoki had made once. 'Why don't you ever keep any food?' He doesn't understand, and he never will, because I won't tell him. Somehow, I think keeping the kind of food I like in the fridge would be slightly inhumane. Inhumane? Who am I to speak of being inhumane, not even being a human? I smile slightly. My fangs become sensitive to the cold air of my apartment. Feeling the prickling sensation, I am reminded of how hungry I actually am. I guess I'll just have to go out. I check the window. It is twilight, good. I'm not too weak now but if I had to be in the sun for a while, that could be dangerous.
~*~*~*~ I've been walking the streets for a while now. Still I have found nothing to eat. My senses are becoming active and virtually screaming at me to get some food fast. I cross the street into the park. Perfect. I can smell out the paths of small animals. Soon I am hunting. Crouching like the predator I am, I can see the squirrel like a burst of red against a backdrop of blue. Rushing forward I snatch up my prey before it can even react. After a quick glance around, I pierce its neck with my fangs and drink.
After draining two more squirrels I decide to walk for a while. Navigating my way through the park, I can see as if it was day even though there is no moon. I hear the squirrels in the trees and I know without looking that a rabbit has just crossed the path behind me.
I do love the night. It seems to embrace my solitude as I head towards the lake. The water looks so beautiful at night. I sit for a while at the water's edge. About an hour passes before I decide to go back home and sleep. Yes I do sleep at night. Heh. And not in a coffin either. Still, I cannot get over the beauty of the night. The sounds were especially beautiful; leaves rustling, crickets chirping, and .
Crying? I turned towards the sound. Several yards away, at a bench, sat a girl. Her shoulders were shaking and her head was bowed. Unconsciously, I made my way towards her, slowly at first, but faster once I realized who she was.
"Odango.?"
