Unrequited Love~
She was depressed. Again. I stood a distance away and watched her cry over him. Once again Phineas was oblivious to how much Isabella liked him. Of course it wasn't really Phineas's fault. No offense to him, but he really sucked at romance. He didn't realize how his ignorance was hurting Isabella, I knew he would never purposely hurt Isabella. I truly believed he liked her back, but wasn't sure how to admit his crush. I guess I was in the same situation, but I would never say anything, because Phineas was the one Isabella wanted. I knew admitting my crush would lead to an awkward situation for her and an embarrassing rejection for me.
I sat down next to her on a park bench. She looked at me, tears streaming down her face. "Oh…hi Ferb."
She wiped away the tears and sniffed. I tilted my head, asking a silent question. Phineas best understood my silent speech, but Isabella could sometimes read it, after all, we've know each other since we were little kids.
She wiped away more tears and answered, "I'm fine. It's just…."
She sighed, "Phineas. Why does he have to be so oblivious? Is it that he just doesn't feel the same way?"
She got wide-eyed at that statement and fresh tears slid down her face. I offered her a tissue, which she took and used to dry her damp eyes. "Thanks."
I nodded and looked at the setting sun, I rested my hand on the bench, inches from her hand.
"I…I can't stand the thought that he doesn't feel the same way…"
More tears. I couldn't stand seeing her so sad. So I said something that wouldn't make her like me more…but I knew it was right. I never regretted saying it.
"He does."
She looked at me and blinked, "What?"
I looked back at her, "He does. He likes you."
She shook her head, "But…he never shows he does."
I shrugged, "That's Phineas."
We both looked back at the beautiful sunset, a gentle breeze made Isabella's hair blow towards me, sending a sweet scent my way. Moving my hand I brushed against Isabella's, and almost without realizing it, took hold of her hand.
I didn't look at her as I said, "Just give him time, he'll come around eventually."
"Soon?" I slowly turned towards her, she looked hopeful, but I couldn't lie to her. I shrugged, silently saying I didn't know. She smiled sadly, "I guess nobody could know. But…you think he'll…tell me eventually?"
I nodded and let go of her of her hand.
She looked up at the sky, then turned back to me and smiled. "I feel better…thanks Ferb."
Isabella then got up and threw the tissue into a nearby trash can. Getting up as well I waved her a quick goodbye and turned to leave.
"Ferb…wait!"
Isabella ran over to me pulling me into a hug. I recognized the scent of her hair as strawberries.
"Ferb…I really…appreciate that you always take time to listen to me…"
She released me from her hug, "You're the best friend anyone could ask for, you may not talk much…but you're always there to listen. I'm glad that you're my best friend…along with Phineas."
She smiled and turned to walk away but twirled to face me again, and then leaning over, she lightly kissed my cheek. She turned away again to leave, I was grateful that she didn't see me blush. Isabella waved as she walked away, "Bye Ferb!"
I waved back and after she was out of sight, I gently ran my hand over the spot she kissed.
She still loved Phineas, and was as oblivious to me as Phineas was to her. But that was okay with me. Because I'd always be there for her. I'd always be her best friend.
Along with Phineas of course.
