It had been a while since they had been so in sync. Seeing Steven's abrupt descent into the corrupted beast's belly had sent Pearl and Amethyst into action, hurriedly fusing in mutual panic and alarm. Despite their differences, Pearl and Amethyst both worked well under pressure.
Opal materialized in a haze of smoke, wasting no time as she raced towards the creature. Doubt started to prick at her mind. What if Steven's been hurt, what if- Opal quickly pushed these thoughts away. No. We have to focus on rescuing Steven first, worry later.
Leaping with effortless grace as she latched onto the underside of its body., Opal plunged her fists into the creature's belly, frantically scrabbling around for Steven. Panic coursed through her veins, dulling slightly as she found and seized the chubby boy, along with that goat from earlier. She leapt away from the monster, plunging into the pond below as the creature de-materialized into countless shards.
Opal arose from the water, quickly surveying her surroundings as she gripped Steven tightly to her bosom, barely registering his voice. Opal narrowed her eyes as she spotted the shards re-materializing into numerous minuscule versions of the previous enemy. A surge of urgency filled her as the creatures approached at breakneck speed, leaping away just in time as their sharp beaks plunged at her.
She slid the sloping stairs, avoiding her enemies attacks while holding Steven close, back flipping away onto a stretch of grass. There was no time to waste. Gently, she set Steven and the goat down, urgency overcoming her. Opal quickly summoned her weapons, Amethyst's whip and Pearl's spear, and combined them into her purple bow.
Her long, pale ponytail whipped in the wind as she readied her arrow. An aura of light grew around her as she pulled back her bowstring, preparing to fire her attack onto the approaching enemies. As she fired, her pulse raced, watching in bated breath as her attack flew towards her enemies.
The arrow hit its mark, glowing brightly as it exploded, taking down the attackers. She had done it. Steven was safe. A mixture of relief, joy, and pride soared through her as she fought to suppress a giddy grin. She turned around to face Steven, who was gaping in a mixture of awe and excitement. She reveled in it.
A note of uncertainty crossed Steven's face as he processed what had just happened. He looked up at the graceful creature before him, unsure of what to think."Do you… know who I am?" Steven twiddles his thumbs as he met Opal's gaze.
Opal chuckled at the notion. Oh Steven, of course I know who you are. How could I not? She met the boy's gaze with warmth and reassurance as she outstretched an arm towards him. "All you want to do.. Is see me turn into…" She sang, smiling wider as she saw Steven's eyes light up. He finished her melody. "A giant woman!"
Nice job, P. Amethyst's thoughts rang from the back of her mind. We totally were awesome, weren't we? Pearl's thoughts rang in agreement. I'm glad that we could come to an agreement on something. We really do work well together.
Opal smiled. Overall, a job well done.
