Harry Potter looked up again from his empty plate, still wishing that food would appear on it. Professor McGonagall was finally calling the last first year to be sorted, and another Ravenclaw was added to the Ravenclaw table. Harry and Ron Weasly grabbed their forks, ready to dig in to the food, as soon as Professor Dumbledore said a few words. Dumbledore's words never came; instead Professor McGonagall came forward again.
"We have a new student here. She's a sixth year transfer, from a school in the States. Her name is Marissa Eve," McGonagall said, indicating a girl in the back, hidden in the shadows to come forwards. Slowly the girl came into view, giving a shocking appearance, but seemed somewhat familiar to Harry.
Draco Malfoy looked up surprised, he had never heard that Hogwarts would allow student from other schools to transfer here. He got an even bigger surprise when the he saw the new girl. She had straight oddly color of black hair that went down to her shoulders. She had very pale skin and her eyes were outlined in a lot of black eyeliner, eye shadow, and covered in mascara. She would've looked sinister if she didn't look so scared. Her head was down and her gorgeous eyes, Draco stated, wondered onto the crowd of people every so often. She finally sat down on the stool, and Draco found himself wishing that she would be sorted into any house but Slytherin, he didn't want her to turn out like him and the rest of the Slytherins.
Marissa sat down on the stool. She wasn't ready for this. She wasn't ready to try to start trusting people again. The last time she trusted someone she knew was the summer, and she deeply regretted it. It led her into things what she thought she was safe of in the States, things like Voldemort. She didn't have much time to think of that, because the Sorting Hat was soon placed on her head.
"Well dear, what do have we now? A witch who already has learned so much? Your personality, you keep true to yourself. Your traits lead deep down into you for that, and also deep down into our houses," the hat said inside her head.
"Er ok, do you know what house I'll be in then?" Marissa thought, just wanting to find out.
"You're a bit impatient aren't you? Well, like I said you're traits go deeply into each house. You have a good amount of knowledge, which would suit you for Ravenclaw. Much loyalty, even though you've been betrayed... let's see great ambition, to make something of yourself, a Slytherin trait, more or less." Marissa frowned remembering that that Slytherin table looked more dark and gloomy, then the others.
"Maybe not then," the hat continued. "Um, a good deal of bravery. A great deal of that. You remind me a bit of that Potter fellow."
"Potter? I've heard that name before," She thought trying to remember from where.
"Well dear, like Potter I'm going to also put you in to- GRYFFINDOR! The hat said shouting the last bit out loud.
