This is partly inspired by that "10 songs, 10 drabbles" thing that's been going around here a bunch, and the fact that I have a few other Snippets series here and at my deviantart. (My da account is EmoKidSid, by the way. Have Star Wars, FFVII, & Metalocalypse snippety things.)
I can't help but play a variation of this scene in my head whenever I hear this song. It's very dramatic, but we're gonna live with that.
The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning - Smashing Pumpkins.
The Owl Ship had landed in its base, though its two passengers had yet to exit.
Maybe it was the excitement that remained after a productive night of wiping the dregs of society from the streets that made him do it; pushed him over the edge of wanting it and actually doing something to get it. Maybe he was so tired his mind wasn't thinking clearly. Whatever the case, Rorschach found himself forgetting all pretense, pressing into Dan, against the wall of the Ship. He pushed Daniel's hood from his head and tugged the goggles off, letting them fall to the floor without a second thought.
The gloves came off first, then he removed his hat, dropping it to join the goggles, holding his head slightly upward. Daniel worked the tips of his fingers underneath the mask's edge. He pulled it up gently, the thrilling rush - excited and anxious - making it hard to breath. It was almost unnatural to be able to look into the eyes behind the ink mask, their exact colour indiscernible in the dark shadows, but Dan was glad for this chance, no matter how odd it felt. He never cared what his friend's face looked like underneath, he just needed to know how it looked. His eyes followed as his fingers traced over skin, lips, ears, hair....
Rorschach stood patiently as he could, arms looped behind his partner's neck, gauging the reaction. Though he was expecting a negative response - an insult to his harsh features - he could find nothing but gratified fascination in the expression in front of him. Something delighted and relieved. "Daniel?" he asked and received no answer. The other man was distracted; lost in the moment, in his own contented thoughts. "Is it bright where you are?"
"What was that?" Dan asked, voice just above a whisper.
"Does it make you happy?" This. Having him uncovered. Unguarded. Rorschach wanted to know, eager to see if this was what his partner really wanted.
Daniel gave a small satisfied smile and leaned forward. "You're so strange...." he replied fondly, barely cutting his own words off, closing the remaining distance between their lips.
So when Billy Corgan says "No one can separate us" at 3:25, does anyone else think it sounds like "No one can stand burritos?" You cannot unhear this.
