As the White Witch descended from the Northern Mountains, bringing with her the monsters, the cold and the ice, all the creatures fled in terror, forsaking their hope, faith and purpose.
When he saw the end of his world, a Centaur cried out the question which shook the earth and shattered the sky with its power and despair: "Why?"
And the Heavens opened up to him and a Voice said, "My Son, there's a Land beyond all lands where that question is defeated; have faith and I will lead you there."
Then the Centaur saw the Light, and he understood.
As the Telmarines came from the North and their fire descended upon the forests, all the Creatures saw their world burnt to the ground and all the might and magic of Narnia retreat before steel and cold-blooded murder.
As he watched his world end, a Badger cried out the question which shook the earth and shattered the sky with its power and despair: "Why?"
And the Heavens opened up to him and a Voice said, "Come with me, my Son; have faith and I will show you the Reason for Everything."
And the Badger saw the Light, and he understood.

As Susan read the telegram her hands started trembling, for her world had ended, and she hadn't even been there to see it. And it had happened so suddenly: a moment ago she thought she had everything, and now she knew she had nothing.
When she understood her entire family was gone, she whispered the question which should've shaken the ground and shattered the sky with its power and despair; but the ground was as stable as ever and she was still breathing in air, and the world never stopped, never ended.
"Why?"
And the Heavens were empty and gray.
