Cavern (Rewritten)
NOTE: After a lot of thought, I've decided to rewrite one of my less embarrassing unfinished stories. There are going to be a few changes to this draft, most notably I'm taking Harry out of it, because (much as I love him to bits) I can't write him as easily has I used to. Plus I'm in a massive 4/Sarah mood at the moment! Anyway, I've left the (awful) original up as well.
I don't own them, they are the property of Auntie Beeb.
Every so often, the TARDIS went haywire. The Doctor always said he knew how to handle it (even if his current companion(s) didn't believe him). And always, he managed to land the ship safely.
This time, it went so out of control that for a few minutes he didn't even know if he could land it. They had been trying to get back to London, when the room had started shaking and swirling beyond anything he had ever known. Sarah had entered the room at that moment and the first he knew of her presence was a loud shriek as she tumbled head over heels onto the floor. He had managed to grab onto the console and break his fall but hit his head off it in the process. Ignoring the stabbing pain, he raced about from button to switch trying desperately to get things back under control.
"Doctor!" Sarah howled, as she tried yet again to stand up, only to be subsequently hurled painfully into the wall. "What's going on?"
"We're being drawn off course!" he shouted back, not realising the note of panic was audible in his voice. "And something doesn't agree with the TARDIS!"
Sarah was reminded of their recent adventure in 1911, how something similar had happened then, before their terrifying battle with Sutekh. This, however, was obviously something on a far, far greater scale, but she put that disturbing thought to the back of her mind, as she cried "Do you want a hand?"
"Hold down that switch and that button!" was the instruction, but unfortunately, they were both quite far apart. In the end Sarah had to practically climb onto the console to reach them.
Then, as suddenly as it had started, the shaking stopped. The only downside to this was that both Sarah and the Doctor were flung into the wall. The Doctor hit the wall first, and provided a crash mat for Sarah. She closed her eyes, waiting for the pain to subside from every corner of her body, so it was a few minutes before she eventually opened her eyes, only to find the Doctor grinning at her like a madman.
"Hello, Miss Smith," he said, cheerily. "Are you going to lie on me all day?"
"Sorry." She got up, wincing slightly as her ankle throbbed. The Doctor went over to check the console and for a few minutes there was nothing but muffled Gallifreyan from under the console.
"Well, nothing appears to be damaged, it was a simple matter of-"
"Doctor, my head is quite sore enough without any horrendously over complex theories," Sarah told him, handing him his hat.
"Well, I've been making a few adjustments, so we're better protected." The Doctor jammed his hat on, opened the door and offered Sarah his arm. "Shall we go?"
Smiling, Sarah took his arm, and the travellers stepped out into their new surroundings.
The place seemed normal enough, but there was a slight, undeniable feeling of unease in the atmosphere.
