A talk among friends

"You know we're both broken." She stated simply, without any self pity. She actually seemed amused by that statement. He looked at her confused. She took a sip of scotch and smiled. "Don't dare pretend you don't understand" she continued "I'm here on a Saturday night drinking scotch with you even though I prefer wine. And you probably got dumped by your cop girlfriend who got tired of you being… well YOU". That was harsh and she knew it. But he deserved it and once in a while he needed to hear it.

"We should go out together sometime" he stated as if it was the first time that idea hit him. She looked at him. Of course his face was composed and almost innocent. He looked like he had rehearsed that line (or one close to it) for some time. They were running around the subject for so long it started to lose its charm. They should give it a try, every relationship they had had ended up in heartache or just died along the way and meanwhile they offered comfort to each other. They knew each other; he always lingered around a couple a seconds longer after talking to her; she always bailed him out of his messes; they both liked their moments together and their hugs. It was about time one of them said something.

"Yes let's do that. But first at least one of us should heal to support the other"

"That would clearly be you. You're better at support than me"

"Of course it's me. I'm always the responsible one."
