Love Just Is

Part One

A/N: Angel, y'all. So, this starts out in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, just after Harry rejected Draco. The next chapter picks up at book 5, and we'll provide a little more insight into how their relationship is different from the canon. And there will still be witty banter and denial, so hang on. Sorry this is so short! Read on, my dears! ^_^

DISCLAIMER: If we owned rights to HP, this would be canon and the series would be rated M!

As the three boys stormed out of the compartment all Harry could think about was what the pale boy had said about the red head sitting next to him. As Harry talked animatedly to the frizzy-haired girl about their new books, and what they thought Hogwarts would be like, they found common ground in wondering how different the Wizarding world was from the one in which they were raised. The other boy in the compartment seemed more interested in his rat than either of the Muggle-raised occupants, which again caused Harry to think about what Malfoy had said about him . Before they knew it, they arrived at the train station and were herded into boats. The boats floated serenely along the murky lake, carrying the new students to the place that they would soon come to call home.

Harry watched it all as if in a dream, but he still couldn't stop thinking of the odd, pale boy he had met on the train. He wondered why he'd been so disdainful of the red-haired Weasley boy. He remembered him flushing as he turned to leave after Harry had turned down his offer of friendship, but what he couldn't figure out was why the blush...it was puzzling him and he knew he wanted to figure this boy out.
He went where the professors told him to go, not even concentrating on his surroundings as he thought about the enigma that was Draco Malfoy. He started out of his reverie as he heard his name being called. He stood and walked to the front of the long hall, and sat on the stool. The Sorting Hat was placed on his head, and took its time in placing him.

It spoke in his mind, "So indecisive. I feel a great deal of inner strength. Ambition. Cunning. Bravery. You could be great." He thought for a moment, and scanned the room, from the side decorated in vibrant red and gold, to the other, decorated in silver and green. As Harry scanned the Slytherin table, his eyes landed on him. Draco Malfoy. Who stared right back at him, the light blush was still present on the otherwise colorless cheeks. The Hat, looking into his mind as he thought once about the blonde haired boy, smiled before bellowing "Slytherin it is!" and the crone-ish professor, McGonagall, whipped the Hat off his head grimly. Harry shyly made his way down to the Slytherin table and in the spur of the moment took the seat beside Draco.

He poked at his food, unable to eat and unable to say anything to the other boy. After another five minutes of pushing the food around his plate he couldn't take it anymore. He turned to the silver eyed boy and muttered, "I'd...I'd like to be your friend." awkwardly, pushing his glasses up on his nose. The boy looked up at him, wide-eyed. "Really?" he asked, looking both incredulous and hopeful. "Yeah. You don't seem like the bad sort, not really." Harry replied, as nonchalantly as possible. He wouldn't admit it to himself, but he was intrigued by Draco. He felt drawn to him...
