Just a little slightly-longer-than-drabble story- my version of the ending of the finale :)
"I think that if I were given a choice, I'd like to be diagnosed with cancer." His voice drifted through the door toward her from where he lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling. "It would be easier in the long run, wouldn't it? Any business that needed taking care of, places you'd always wanted to go, things you'd always wanted to see. Re-read your favourite books, go out to dinner at your favourite place."
He paused as he heard her put her brush back in the bathroom cupboard and start walking back out into the bedroom. Rolling over onto his side, his eyes met hers and they both smiled.
"There'd be time to say goodbye to the people we love." She knelt next to him and reached out to brush her hand against his cheek.
"I don't think I'm ready to say goodbye, Nicky. I don't think I'll be ready for a long, long time."
My retaliation to the HORRIBLE (in my opinion, anyway, I'm sure some people liked it...) ending of CSI's season 6 finale. This is the ending how it SHOULD have been, is the short of it. If you want a long answer, by all means read the next paragraph or so; if you're content with that explanation as it is, feel free to review :D
Reasons the scene made sense: He was closer to Brass, so the incident would have hit him a little harder than it would have hit Nick; TPTB has been going on about GSR for the whole 6 seasons, might as well have something finally.
Reasons the scene DIDN'T make sense: Grissom has adamantly refused Sara since day ONE. Why change that now?; Sara had apparantly been OVER Grissom, once again, why change that now?;
Reasons the scene would've made more sense with Nick(with or without romantic interaction): It's Nick. He's always been there for her, she's always been there for him; Nick has had far more near-death experiences than Grissom, in my mind it would make a lot more sense having NICK talk about how he'd prefer to go.
