I crept to the edge of the cliff and jumped. The wind rushing past me was exhilarating. I spread my arms out and screamed. I splashed into the water. A million bubbles rushed over me towards the surface, another figure sailed over the edge of the cliff. The figure landed in the water not two feet away from me, then something grabbed my ankle and pulled me under. i screamed and more bubbles exploded from my mouth. An arm wrapped around my waist and pulled me up. i gasped and wrapped my arms around his neck.
"Gosh, Jake!" He chuckled at me. "Not funny," i said, punching his arm.
He smiled at me, "Race?"
"Hell, yeah!" I said, racing towards the shore. My mind kept wandering back to Jake's smile, and how he looked at me. But I had to keep paddling because whenever we raced, the loser always had to be nice to Leah for a whole day, and no one wanted to do that. So at that thought, I pushed myself to paddle faster every second. When I could distinctly see the kids on the beach running from the cold water, or other kids throwing plastic buckets and shovels at their parents I knew I could win this if I kept going. My fingertips started to brush against the rough sand, so I got up and sloshed the rest of the way to the beach. "Beat ya again, Jake!" I called triumphantly behind me. I turned around to see how far behind he was and smacked into his chest. "OH! Sorry, didn't see you," I said to his chest blushing.
"I just couldn't beat a girl, that would go against my rules," Jake said backing up a step, looking down at me.
"Oh, whatever. You couldn't beat me if you tried! How about we have another race to prove it? From the cliff we dive down and then swim straight for the shore." I pointed to the high cliff. "Easy enough, let's go." I started walking towards the path up through the rocks winding in and out of the tall grass and drop offs.
Jake started up behind me jogging to keep up. My long strides kept going nice and even. I took a look back at him, getting lost in his staring eyes, that i didnt notice i had come to the edge so quickly.
My foot slipped off the edge and i grabbed the edge and yelled, "Jake! Help!" I could hear his footsteps running up through the swaying grass, jumping over the rocks in the way. My fingers began slipping and Jake wasn't to the top yet.
