The Glorious Candy Mountain Ballad
In a faraway forest (not on any map)
Lived Charlie the unicorn—who was taking a nap.
Under the shade given by above trees,
He felt calm and relaxed—completely at peace.
Until all of a sudden—and yes; this is true—
Two others appeared: one was pink, one was blue.
Their smiles were giddy; their eyes open wide,
And Charlie was forced to wake up as they cried:
"Come with us Charlie!"
"Yes! Come join our fun!
For we're going to travel to Candy Mountain!"
Though he was resistant—a sharp groan in his voice—
Charlie knew well he had no other choice.
If he stayed here and slept, in the heat of the day,
The other two unicorns would not go away.
So all three set out, yes their quest had begun:
To find the spectacular Candy Mountain.
They crossed over bridges,
Traveled south, east and north,
'til they reached part of the forest
Charlie had never seen before.
"I think you two are lost." He said, quick to blame,
But the others ignored him, and instead they exclaimed:
"Look Charlie, look! Quick, before it is gone!
It's a magical leopluradon!"
"A magical what?" Charlie asked as he saw
What looked like a monster; a fish-dinosaur.
"Yeah, great, I see it, but we don't have all day. We should—"
"No Charlie, wait! It can show us the way!"
And without one more word, pink and blue both proceeded
To speak to the creature: get the info they needed.
After only two minutes blue turned, and then said,
"We now know where to go—it's just right up ahead!"
They took off, Charlie trying to keep up from behind,
Wondering how they spoke so well to the monster
In such short a time.
But it was not for long, as the other two stopped
In front of a giant, gingerbread rock
That was coated in candy canes, gumdrops and mints,
Charlie thought, wow it's real; I thought it didn't exist.
Pink and blue danced, chanting again and again,
"We made it! We made it to Candy Mountain!"
There was laughter and feasting, and a few dancing letters,
Then pink said, "Hey, I know how this can be better!
Charlie, how about we go explore?
We can start with the mountain—look; there's a door."
Charlie shrugged, said okay, and began walking in….
But failed to realize they weren't following him.
It was then that he heard a terrible noise.
He turned around quickly, and to his surprise
The other two unicorns were as before,
But now pushing a boulder in front of the door.
"Good-bye, Charlie." They said, as the lighting grew dim,
Leaving him to a fate that looked terribly grim.
Alone now, surrounded by nothing but black
Charlie cried out: "Hey guys! Wait a minute! Come back!"
He continued to call them, though it was in vain….
….then suddenly, Charlie was screaming in pain….
Charlie opened his eyes—he was back where he started:
Under the trees from which they first departed.
He thought to himself, was it all just a dream?
He looked down then: Nope.
They took his kidney.

For an english assignment, we were asked to write a ballad. I had no ideas, so my friend dared my to turn the first of those videos into a ballad. I did. Though it ended up more Suessian than I thought it would XD And more like a poem than a song (I forgot ballads usually repeat at some point.) Still, it was a LOT of fun to do and I hope you all enjoy!
