A New Day
Inspired by a graphic and it's saying. "Welcome to Today. Another day. Another chance. Feel free to change."
"It's a new day now," Emma says softly, partially to Hook and partially to herself, "Another day, another chance, another choice." He doesn't reply, so she presses on, reminding herself about the promises she made to Henry and her parents to Neal and herself. "Another chance to change."
He turns his head sharply to reply, mouth set in a line. Then he looks at her. Really looks. And she is laid bare in the openness of her eyes. He doubts anyone has ever seen her so vulnerable.
"Aye, lass," he finally replies, "That it is." The hard lines of his forehead soften and the corners of his lips curve upwards. "I sense a proposal coming on…"
She smiles, without its usual bitterness, and says "I'll try if you will." She holds out her hand for him to shake.
He shifts uncomfortably. "And you trust me," he says lowly, "to KEEP my promise to you?"
She swallows.
Everything depends on this moment. EVERYTHING.
He gave it all up to come and warn her about The Trigger, to tell her to take her son and get out of Storybrooke before it killed them, and she knew that he would have stayed and died had she and Henry not dragged him along with them.
He WARNED them.
They SAVED him.
They NEEDED each other.
She meets his eyes openly, hiding nothing for the first time in longer than she can remember.
She feels, rather than hears his sharp intake of breath.
"I do," she says softly, "Killian."
She's never said his name before.
An instant later his hand is in hers and his lips hover a hairsbreadth away.
"Good," he says, before sealing their deal with a kiss to end all kisses.
