A New Beginning
It's the end. Yet it's a new beginning.
A/N: After watching 'One To Go', I just had to write this. It's short and sweet just like the amazing and beautiful ending we got. Words cannot describe how happy I was when I saw it. I cried tears of joy. And I keep watching the scene over and over again. Anyway enough of me rambling, I hope you enjoy. Not beta-ed. Reviews much appreciated but not necessary =]
Disclaimer: I do not own CSI, all characters remain property of CBS Paramount, Jerry Bruckheimer and Alliance Atlantis. I merely borrowed them. Otherwise I would be Sara Sidle, Grissom would be mine, and we'd be spending lots of time in that hut in Costa Rica ;D
There were perks to being a CSI, Grissom mused as he tucked the printout into his shirt pocket before leaving the A/V lab. Making his way to his office, he stopped off at reception to ask Judy to organize for his belongings to be shipped to his townhouse.
Stopping at the door, he gave his office the onceover, no longer my office, he remembered, and then turned to walk through the lab for the last time. It's time.
He saw Archie with Ecklie. Heaven knows what this place will be like with Conrad as Undersheriff.
Hodges was talking with Wendy. I hope he doesn't give Ray too much grief.
Mandy and Henry, the lab rats, with Dave. Super Dave.
Greg in DNA. His old stomping ground. I'm so proud of him.
Doc Robbins with Riley. She'll fit in just fine.
Nick. He'll make a terrific supervisor someday soon.
As Grissom approached the break room, he saw Catherine talking with Brass. I'll miss them both, but they'll look after the team.
Catherine looked up and gave him a conspiratorial wink. Seeing his smile, she knew his destiny. She was giving him her blessing and her understanding. After all she'd been through, Catherine knew that when an opportunity arose, you had to grab it with both hands, or risk losing it. Like she did with Warrick. This place hasn't been the same without him.
Grissom smiled. His team would be okay without him. Life went on. As he well knew.

Entering his townhouse, Grissom grabbed his rucksack and dug out his Legend GPS. He programmed in the information from the printout. Switching it off, he grabbed his one-way plane ticket and his passport and made his way to the cab waiting for him out front.

He was finally here; Gil Grissom was in Costa Rica, in the middle of the rainforest. The object of his affections lay not far away, depicted as a red flag on his Legend GPS. Following the well trodden path, he stopped to admire a bug that caught his eye, and then wistfully remembered he was here for his butterfly and a new beginning; a small grin on his features as he carried on.
Coming to a halt where the undergrowth opened up, there he saw her, photographing a small monkey. The sight of her took his breath away. He couldn't quite believe he was here. That she was here. That they were here.
He watched as Sara lowered her camera and turned slowly, as if she sensed he were there. She always knew. He took a couple of steps forward as he watched for her reaction. If he died tomorrow, the smile on her face would have been enough to keep him happy in the next life. He tossed his rucksack to the ground, as he walked toward her, arms outstretched to hold her as he kissed her for what seemed like an eternity.
As she comfortably slipped her head onto his shoulder, he wrapped his arms around her tighter, as he spoke the only four words that needed saying, "I've made my decision."
Fin.
