I'm back! After a long absence from I have returned with much inspiration and a few stories under my belt.
Disclaimer: I don't own Fullmetal Alchemist!
Warning: This is sad. When I let people read it at school, they actually cried I guess. That was a while ago.
ONWARD!
Roy Mustang reread the official looking letter again and again, his hands trembling and his eyes wide. This had to be a horribly cruel joke. The order couldn't be real. There was no way and he just couldn't carry it out. But he had to. The Fuhrer's word was final and there was no arguing it. The task had to be done.
Rain had been pelting the house windows all day, nonstop and had caused the overall mood to become rather depressed. Alphonse was braiding and re-braiding his hair out of boredom while Ed flipped through an old magazine, eyes glazed and not really seeing the pages. Both Elric boys were silent, not talking to the other much at all, afraid that any noise would only egg the storm on.
A quiet knock on the front door brought the two out of their dreary reverie. Al looked up before getting to his feet and straightening his shirt.
"I'll get it," he said. Ed was looking up now, his eyes no longer glossy or dull from boredom. Al reached for the door while glancing at a clock. 10:04 PM. A little late for visitors. With a sigh the boy tugged open the door.
A gust of wind and rain blew over the threshold, dampening Al's face and socks. The Elric wiped his cheek dry and looked up with a smile.
"Good evening Colonel Mustang!" he greeted. "Not very good weather for a walk to our house!" he added, noting the man's dripping hair. Roy's face remained grim as he looked inside the small house. Ed was sitting up straight now and listening.
"Hello Alphonse," Roy said. "I need to speak to you for a few minutes, is that okay?" Al glanced over his shoulder at Edward, whose mouth was pressed together tightly.
"Sure," he replied. "Come in."
Mustang shook his head a bit, which caused Ed's eyes to narrow.
"Id rather we went for a walk," he said. "I need to talk to you alone."
"What the Hell?" Ed suddenly yelled. "It's pouring out there! Don't go Al!"
But the younger was already tugging on his shoes and pulling on a jacket.
"Don't worry Brother," he assured the other. "I'll be back soon." Ed didn't' seem happy but remained quiet. Al smiled at his brother and stepped out into the rain, following Mustang a ways down the street.
"What is it you wanted to talk to me about Colonel?" Al asked over the noise of the rain. Mustang's hands were in his pockets, one fingering something cold and metal.
"Alphonse, I…" he began. The boy looked at him curiously. Roy swallowed har dand pulled the gun free, flicking off the safety. "I'm sorry…"
Al's eyes widened as he took a step to run but Mustang shoved him down. A muddy puddle splashed water over the boy's face as he looked up helplessly.
There was a crash and a yell as Ed ran down the street. Roy stared a moment as the older Elric stood before his brother, shielding him from the gun.
"Move aside Fullmetal…" Mustang murmured just over the rain.
"No way!" Ed screamed. "Just what the Hell do you think you're doing?" Instead of replying Roy shoved him aside, leaving Alphonse exposed once more. The Fuhrer's words echoed in the Flame Alchemist's ears.
~Squeeze, don't pull the trigger…~
And then it was done. Roy stumbled away as rain water flowed crimson down the street. Ed screamed again, not hearing Mustang's "what have I done?" repeated over and over. Instead he ran to his brother, cradling his head and sobbing.
It was over with no end to the storm in sight.
