Hi! This is my first story, so please r&r! I have about 7 more chapters in my computer, so I will be posting more.
Lani stomped impatiently in the trailer. She whinnied, and an answering whinny came back. It was 2:00 in the morning. It would be almost 5 days in the car, only stopping to stretch out our horse's legs.
I was tired, but the stable buzzed with energy. Some of the riders here would be going to Canterwood Crest Academy. After two of us had competed in the nationals, we had gotten a call from the school asking us to come. I was going, and so was my best friend, Sterling. She and I had met when I had bought Lani and boarded her here. I untied my horse from the trailer, and wandered off to go find Sterling.
Sterling's horse, a sweet black gelding named Tut, had royal blue leg wraps on. He had a matching blanket on, and looked so cute! I looked back at Lani wearing a turquoise blanket and leg wraps. Her Dun coat seemed to glow under the moonlight. She was a sweet mare, about 17 hands high. I had bought her from a man who couldn't afford to keep her anymore. My flashlight bobbed as I walked up to Sterling and Tut.
"Hey, Natalie? Can you pull on that side of Tut's blanket?" asked Sterling. The one thing Sterling loved more than her horse was the ancient Egyptians. She had even named her black quarter horse after one of the pharos. I pulled on the blue blanket, and traced the symbol of the Nationals. We had both won trailering gear, and a new saddle of our choice in the Nationals. I had chosen a jumping saddle, while Sterling had gone with a dressage saddle. "Thanks. Are you excited or what?" asked Sterling.
"Of course I am. I guess I will be sad to leave my old school." I said. She nodded, and pulled back her long black straight hair. We both wore old sneakers, and sweatshirts, instead of our usually clean look.
"You can always talk to me if you need to. You can also use Skype." She said. I nodded, and looked at my watch.
"We should probably load them up. I also have to grab my tack, and grain for her.' I nodded to my horse. At the word grain, Lani perked up her ears. I laughed, and Lani nodded her head to the sound of my laughter.
We walked back to the trailer, and loaded our horses. Our horses, being used to shows, went up with no problem. I ran back to the tack room, and grabbed my crate with all of her grooming equipment, and put my saddle pads inside the crate. I then put my saddle on the top of the crate, and walked out the door. After I loaded that, I ran to get her grain. In about five minutes, we were ready. I leaned my head on the window, and gazed out to the field where horses were sleeping. Then, I dozed off.
