The brilliance of your eyes out-burns the fire,
The touch of ash is coarser than your fair skin,
Your gentle smile does not fear the darkness,
I want to keep kissing your long pale graceful throat,
The sweet soft voice rings in my ear even when you are not there,
Your small hands hide playfully behind your back,
Through the translucent veil that separates us,
Your sleeping form brings comfort to my stormy lonely heart,
How did this love come to be?
I am Hades and you are Persephone,
I, the Master of the Dark and you a child of flowers,
A match not made.
Your golden hair shines where even the sun does not,
Oh little child,
My heart is yours as is all of me,
Just whisper my name only once,
Bathe me in your love even if it is just a lie,
Let my bloodied hands wipe away your tears,
Let your small body embrace mine,
Let me protect you from all that frightens you,
How did this love come to be?
I am Hades and you are Persephone,
I am still a beast and you still a flower.
I have soiled your innocence,
A deed I cannot undo,
But to you I pledge an eternal love,
And willing to penance for my sin,
Graceful flower, bring life to this barren heart,
Leave me not longing for long,
Return home to me dear Persephone,
Without you I shall be nothing,
Punish me with your anger,
Punish me not with your absence,
Dear Persephone, I am Hades, a keeper of my word
I shall return you to the light,
But home you must come,
I am Hades and you are Persephone,
The Lord of the Underworld, and a flower child,
I am Kanou, the ruthless master,
And you Ayase, are my Persephone.
A/N:
This poem has been inspired by the story of Hades and Persephone. In my opinion nothing more aptly represents them than this mythological couple.
If you are not aware of the story, it is as such: Hades is the Greek god of the Underworld, brother of Zeus and Poseidon and Persephone is the daughter of Demeter and Zeus (they are siblings, so yes that would make Hades Persephone's uncle- but it works in mythology). One day while she was out painting flowers, Hades rode out of a hole in the earth and swept Persephone into the Underworld. Her mother went mad searching for her and upon being told by Zeus that Persephone were a good match, Demeter destroyed all harvest. Meanwhile in the Underworld it is believed that Persephone refused to eat and accept the gifts given by Hades, she would just throw a temper and Hades would go to get more gifts hoping to win her approval. She slowly fell in love with him during this time but wouldn't admit it. When Zeus saw what Demeter did he promised to bring Persephone back on the condition that she should not have eaten anything while being in the Underworld. Persephone was quite with hunger and when she was offered her favourite fruit the pomegranate, she had four or six of the red jewels, now it was a rule that if you have consumed anything while being in the Underworld you cannot return to the world of the living. Hades and the other gods came to a compromise, Persephone had to spend four months in the Underworld and the rest on earth.
