Elphaba held out her hand in the rain, what was the point of her? No mother, a father that didn't care. She was a teenager, an adolescent and as she grew she began to realise the shamble her family was, a nest of lies and deceit. Nessa was all her father cared for – excluding Shell – he loved everything about her, her hair, her eyes, her sweet nature, even her lack of arms.
The cold water now burnt her skin, she winced and tried to save herself from tears. Her green skin was dark and swollen. Perhaps it was time to go home to her friends, by home she meant Gillikin, the only place where she felt safe. It was her second year, and her last away from Nessa, for she would have to care for her disabled sister when she enrolled.
Elphie dreaded that first day of term, the looks were uncomfortable enough, but with a sister without arms, how would she cope? She knew she was strong but sometimes anyone can give in when emotion overtakes.
She lay on the bed and slept , her long head lay on the pillow, her chin tucked near her knees. Dreaming, she began to roll, slowly towards the edge of her bed, her arm fell onto the floor as she changed position. She dreamt of Fiyero, the new boy in school, his dark skin, the blue gems that patterned his forehead and she fell from her bed.
Great just great, she thought, stroking the bump on her head, her arms ached and her legs cramped as she walked towards the bathroom. It was 5 o'clock in the morning but Elphie just needed time alone. She rubbed in her daily oil and changed into her longest black dress and cloak.
The path was misty and Elphaba found it difficult to see, her black hair fell in front of her face. Not bothering to sweep it away she carried on walking, until she came across a small rock. She sat and thought. Elphie thought about everything, family, friends, school... Fiyero.
A tap on her shoulder. She turned, the smiling face of Glinda was looking down on her, her curls tucked carefully into her bun. She didn't say anything, jsut sat on the floor near Elphie, admiring her strength. Glinda and Elphie embraced, Elphie's cheeks burned as she cryed and Glinda laughed wearily as the friends bonded. Moments like this were rare between the pair as both Elphie and Glinda were busy most of the time, Elphaba studied and Galinda socialised, gossiping with all her other friends.
The friends walked back to the dorm, hands held, joking as they went, anxiously awaiting the torment that was yet to come.
