Elsa found herself staring out the window of her room once more, just as she had for most of her life. Only this time, she wasn't observing the outside world yet avoiding it at all costs. Now, she was just thinking.
The queen was thinking about the events of the past few days. She thought about the incident at the party. She thought about her ice palace. She thought about how she froze Anna's heart. She thought about the Weselton guards. She thought about the final blizzard. She thought about thawing the kingdom. But most of all, she thought about Prince Hans of the Southern Isles.
She hated him. He had tried to murder her and her sister. He had tried to take over Arendelle. Elsa loathed Hans with every fiber of her being. But there was something else...
Elsa frowned. Even though she told herself she hated the man, whenever her mind turned to him, she felt no anger. Only curiosity.
If he had truly been their enemy, why had he seemed like he cared about her? He seemed truly concerned when Elsa had been taken to the dungeon, and even saved her from being impaled with an arrow.
"Queen Elsa! Don't be the monster they fear you are!"
Hans's words echoed in Elsa's ears. He had stopped her from killing those guards in cold blood. Maybe he wasn't so bad...
The queen shook her head vigorously. No. Hans was a terrible person. She could never forgive him.
"Just stop this winter. Please."
"Don't you see? I can't! You have to tell them to let me go!"
"...I will do what I can."
He lied, didn't he? He never made sure they let her go.
But wait.
The more Elsa thought about it, the more she realized he had seemed incredibly reluctant. And he hadn't exactly openly betrayed her, had he? Unlike Anna, he hadn't talked about his whole plan. He had said, "I will do what I can." Maybe he had. Maybe killing her had been a last resort. And hadn't Anna told her that Hans said "Elsa was preferable of course"?
Perhaps...perhaps Hans wasn't really as villainous as he was made out to be. Perhaps he was simply...misunderstood.
Elsa sighed as she turned away from the window. However confusing her feelings about Prince Hans could be, she had to admit that should they ever meet again, perhaps she would show him a bit more kindness than he showed them. And who knows? Maybe throwing a little love his way...could bring out his best.
"Let's say...this guy has done something...unforgivable...like you know, he, um, he once...stole from you...or something...graver than that...would you...by any chance...forgive him...and...love him in the end?"
Well, would you?
