-What You Wished For-

The first time she wanted to cry, it was through her desire to express her sadness. What she found when she moved to wipe at her eyes (nothing) was more of an answer than the one Asbel couldn't give. (She wasn't human, no matter what her feelings were. She might have been a person, but she wasn't human - and at the end of the day, that was what counted the most.)

The second time she wanted to cry, it was from her newfound happiness. (This time, she could.) Even though it wasn't quite the same as she had imagined, her wish had been granted - and wasn't that what counted the most?

The third time she wanted to cry, it was one of the most agonizing things she had experienced. She could barely look at the characters engraved onto the gravestone (they looked so wrong written there; a name meant for the living carved onto that which belonged to the dead) before her vision blurred once again and her body was wracked by shudders that had little to do with the wintry chill. An arm wrapped around her shoulders and she didn't even bother opening her eyes as she dove into a tight, tight hug that said more than anything she could vocalize. (Absently, some part of her mind that wasn't overtaken by grief noted that he was also quivering ever so subtly and she realized that perhaps she wasn't the only one who needed this.) In the end, she gradually learned to cope with the loss. After all, it was her memories of their time together that counted the most, right?

(But it didn't make the next five times any less painful.)

A/N: Just something short to get myself prepared for writing a longer one-shot. Criticism would be appreciated, since I haven't written any fanfiction in about two years. (Also on a side-note: this section exists?)

Have a happy new year, everyone!
