Prologue
"What's the situation?" the King asked, his mousey features darker than Ansem had ever seen.
"My colleagues have had their… experimentations. I love them all dearly, but what they're doing is just unforgivable," he replied, obviously flustered.
"Ansem, that's not important right now. What is important is that the…package was delivered safely," Mickey walked toward his friend stiffly. Ansem looked around the library uneasily.
"I believe so."
"You believe so? Did you not deliver it-
"It wasn't my fault! I had to! They were suspicious of me!"
"Ansem, you didn't!"
"What else was I to do, Mickey? If I had taken it, it would have been destroyed."
"Ansem, do you have any idea how-
"I have every idea Mickey, and that's why I risked my life, my reputation to transport the package to Merlin!" The King turned away from Ansem and walked toward one of the tall bookcases.
"I hope it arrives safely then, my friend. For all of our sakes," Mickey was barely audible now. Ansem said nothing. He only stood silently by his friend and turned his thoughts once again to his studies.
"Ansem," Mickey said suddenly. "Yes?" Ansem looked away from the spot he had been staring at.
"Who did you entrust it to?" Mickey turned to face Ansem fully. Ansem colored slightly.
"I entrusted the package to a team of young, but skilled individuals from my own world. I would trust them with my lives."
"You aren't talking about Squall's gang are you?" Mickey's voice was rising now, "They're just teenagers!"
"They are capable Mickey, and what's more once they have reached Merlin's home the wizard can transport the ke-
"Sh!!" Mickey interrupted.
"The package," Ansem amended, "To Yen Sid's tower." Mickey turned away from him.
"I don't know, Ansem. I just don't know."
