First off, this song was written specifically for the One Piece fandom-it's not just a random poem I thought was appropriate. However, I wasn't intending for it to tie in so heavily with Subtlety... But hey, whatever works. :D My author's notes kept getting really messy whenever I tried to include a verse of this at the end of Subtlety chapters, so I thought I'd post the whole darn thing.
In closing, if you, reader, are one of Subtlety's followers, I did have another brief spell of writer's block but I've got my road map back again. It's still not as epic as I would like it to be, but I should have it posted soon...hopefully. Starting college this week, so I honestly don't know how much time I'm likely to have.
And now, Legend. One day I may figure out how to post it as a sound file so that y'all can hear the tune. :D
They say the angels of the deep
Drag every sailor down to sleep
Each promise that he didn't keep
Is counted on the Blues
They say the devils of the sea
Give out their garden's fruit for free
But all blood paid out for the fee
Is counted on the lines
They say the ships that carry men
Straight into death and back again
Are bought in death with piece of ten
And counted by their flags
They say the seven long-dead kings
Weight pirates' hearts like diamond rings
And every thought of guilty things
Is counted on their souls
They say who takes the great black blade
From where its master's corpse was laid
Will find the world in arms arrayed
And count ten thousand foes
They say the last king called the brave
To seek his treasure on the waves
And those that fate or luck have saved
Are counted as his men
They say the Great Age has begun
And though the bastards think they've won
We'll have the ones that turn and run
And count them on our swords!
