Afterlife

Nothing. Where was nothing around him.

„KITT!"

It was like flying: strange, unsecure sensation, without a solid ground under his wheels. A complete loss of control over his own body. It felt as if his sensors would need re-calibration, but he couldn't find anything to re-calibrate.

„KITT!"

Wasn't someone calling his name? A voice he hadn't heard for a long time, yet familiar.

„KITT!"

Yes, it felt like his name. He couldn't reach his own memory bank but somehow he still knew it was an acronym, an abbreviation of his name, and one of the T's actually stood for „Two". He struggled to scan his surroundings, but there seemed to be nothing to be scanned.

„KITT!"

There was an amber flash in the distance, a flash he could recognise immediately.

„KITT!"

As if his sensors were coming back, he could scan humans and different animals passing by. Some of them seemed to be relieved, others were angry, sad or surprised. A deer gallopped away gracefully, a child was running after her long-lost mother. A dog approached, as if he was planning to leave its mark on his wheels. This was the first thing that reminded him of his everyday life.

„KITT!"

He tried to remember. Michael, Devon and RCIII were standing around him, laughing. They just solved a case... their happy celebration was his last memory of the people whom he loved.

„KITT!"

„Where are we, KARR?".

„You sent me back here, KITT."

There was sadness hidden behind the sarcasm, he could feel it. But there was no anger in that voice; not anymore.

„So... this is how deactivation feels like."

„Humans go on from here" KARR continued. „I've been watching them. I've seen Wilton Knight pass by. I have yet to see your driver, so most likely, he is still functional."

Michael Knight was still alive! That was a relief. But what happened? He might never know.

„And how about us?"

„We will be brought back to our own life" KARR reassured him. „I know that from experience."
