Emma arrived at her locker during her break between classes. As she unlocked the combination and opened her door a flyer drifted down to the floor. She stooped to pick it up and saw that it was for the next school dance.

Didn't they just have one?

Oh well, it was another excuse to get dressed up and hang with her friends. At the last dance the guys had gotten into a ridiculous dance off. She smiled to herself as she remembered how David Nolan had looked so awkward doing the running man before he elbowed an innocent bystander in the face. Her best friend Killian didn't let him live it down for days.

Emma glanced at the date on the flyer and frowned. It was in two days and she had no idea what to wear and she didn't have a date. Luckily, Killian and she made a pact a long time ago that if neither of them had a date for a dance, they'd go together. It was a nice arrangement actually. They got to enjoy the social life of high school without having to go through the awkwardness of being a third wheel at these events. While Emma enjoyed hanging out with their group of friends, it could be hard when many of them were existing couples like David and Mary Margaret or Graham and Ruby.

"Hey, Swan!"

Emma looked up to see Killian making his way to her locker.

"Hey," she replied, waving the flyer in the air. "Did you see that the next dance is coming up?"

"Aye, I can't wait to see what David will do this time," he grinned.

Emma chuckled. "Are you ever gonna let that go? He was mortified."

"What would be the fun in that, Swan?"

She playfully rolled her eyes at him.

"So…will you be my date to this dance?"

"Yeah, it doesn't look like I'll be getting a date in the next two days seeing as how no one's asked me yet."

"Actually, Emma, I was asking you," he said as he reached up to scratch behind his ear –an adorable nervous tic he's had for as long as she can remember. Emma feels her heart racing in her chest as she stares back at him. She'll blame it on the two cups of coffee she had this morning.

"Emma?"

She catches the flicker of uncertainty in his blue eyes. Somehow it seemed that going to a dance with Killian wasn't all that farfetched. They were kindred spirits and did pretty much everything together. Would it really be so different if they became more?

The corner of her mouth tilts up slightly as she answers, "It would be my honor."
