"Hinata…" He looked so pained as each waited for the other to break.
"I'm so sorry," she was; the guilt, regret, and pity spelled out on her face, in the dip of her head, her quivering lower lip. A few tears made their way down her face, her voice was hoarse as she said "I have to go, be well Itachi."
Already? But he wasn't done, they weren't done. Didn't she see that? "Wait!" As if words could hold her here. Dammit, he'd finally found her and she was slipping through his fingers. It was devastating and impossible. Why was this happening?
"Please…"His voice ached with the plea. He knew he was getting desperate but if pleading might help, he was getting down on the ground. "I'll fix it. We can fix it."
They both wanted that to be true, and they both knew it wasn't.
She turned away; the tears were flowing relentlessly now, "How?" Her voice cracked. "It's over Itachi, sometimes things get too broken to be fixed, even for you."
She turned back to face him one last time, her expression was heartbreaking, which made sense for their current situation. Her cheeks and nose flushed in agony, her pale eyes burning.
That was it, Itachi ran to her and swept her into a tight embrace and crushed her lips to his. His brows crumpled in grief, his eyes crushed closed in denial of their eminent parting. If he could just stop everything and just leave it all behind. This fucked up situation and all of its components.
She pulled away, "Maybe in another life, right?" she chuckled brokenly through the congestion brought on by so many tears.
"No.." He groaned, it was it was all he could do to simply stand there, to resist the futile temptation to grab her and simply run away, escape to Mexico or something, anything. He hated watching her back retreat down the long hall, her heels clanking down the marble.

Okay so I wrote this thinking I was just writing another one shot but it suddenly got a life of its own and then promptly died. I really don't know what happened there but I got depressed just writing it. I have no clue what is going on between Hinata and Itachi in this ficlet. I'll sum it up to me wanting to practice some dramatic angst? Maybe I could do more with this, any suggestions?
Naruto: don't own it, never will.
