Daine entered the classroom at a run. She was late for her class at the College of Magics.
"I'm sorry Master Numair, I really am! I had some trouble at home!" Daine cried as she approached Master Numair, her college Professor for wildmagic who was known to be ruthless with his late students.
"No excuses Miss Sarrasri. You have one last time to be late or you will get kicked out of this class or school if I could convince the board of directors!" Master Numair grumbled. "Now get to your seat!"
"Yes sir." Daine mumbled.
"Say it louder, I didn't hear it."
"Yes sir!!" Daine said, embarrassed.
Daine started to sit beside Kaddar.
"What do you think you're doing, sitting beside Kaddar?" said Serena icily. She was one of his cronies and was known to like him.
Instead of answering, Daine got a seat up front near Master Numair.
"Okay class…" Master Numair said as he was about to start his lecture.

"Gee, that was a great entrance Daine!" Serena snickered as they exited the classroom.
"Ya, really great!" Kaddar said. He started to laugh. So did his cronies.
"Will you shut up? Stop laughing when I laugh! Aren't you guys original?!" Kaddar yelled and at once they became quiet.
Daine left them and was trying to figure out where her friend, Rett, was. Argh! Why did Rett have to be absent today of all days! Daine thought as she was walking to her next class.

She walked into her next classroom and tripped. She got up embarrassedly and walked to her seat. Serena looked at her smugly. Aaaah! What is it with today? Is it "Beat-up Daine Day"? Daine contemplated. Ouch. This really bites. She started to touch the bruise her brother had given her that same morning. He had beaten her up for winning a card game. I wonder what was up with him! Sheesh! It was just a stupid card game! And here Serena is, adding to my pain embarrassment!

Kaddar snapped to attention as soon as he heard the laughing crowd. Serena had tripped Daine. Why does she have to keep doing that stuff! Kaddar thought. Doesn't she think Daine has had enough? Damn her for having a crush on me. Serena always tried to impress Kaddar by embarrassing people. He didn't really like her doing that, it always made him seem like the bad guy, when in fact he was a very nice person who didn't care about impressions.
